‘Tis the Season For Second Chances

by Wendi Zwaduk

I love to read about second chance love stories. That’s probably why I enjoy writing them, too. Characters are able to redeem themselves and start over.
One More Night is one of those tales. Jenna never quite gave up on her first love. He was the man she craved, but her issues and insecurities got in the way. It’s something we can all relate to. We’ve made decisions we thought would go one way, then found out they’d happen another way. She’s never given up on him, but she’s given up a little on herself.
Then there’s Drake. He’s never given up on her—but fate intervened to encourage him to give up on himself. The plane crash wasn’t his fault, but he still can’t get beyond the mental and physical scars.
Can these two wounded souls sort out the past and make a future together? Only time will tell when they get One More Night.
Here’s more!

Why Airplanes and Pilots?

One More Night available HERE
By Wendi  Zwaduk

I happened to be at a race and the person in the motor coach next to ours asked me what I did. I told her I was an author and I wrote steamy books with second chance passion. Not only was she shocked that a real person wrote ‘that stuff’ but she was amazed she could get ‘those books’ on her phone. So she asked me what it was I wrote about. I told her about my 1NS book, One More Night. A hunky pilot reunites with his ex-lover for hot times at the airport.
Then she hit me with the big question: why airplanes and pilots?
I like to write about pilots and planes because my DH is a pilot. No better reference than asking the person on the other side of the bed. Plus, I listen. There’s a lot of info you can glean from pilots and the air traffic controllers. I don’t understand all of it and I swear they have their own language, but it’s interesting. Keeping separation between the planes in the air, timing when one can land and one can take off...then there’s the maintenance stuff. Fueling planes, moving them from point a to point b and the poor guy or girl who has to climb the ladder to clean the windshields. It’s fascinating to me to listen and learn about it. Plus, pilots have a romantic job. They control large machines with finesse and grace, plus they look darned hot in those suits! In One More Night, my pilot isn’t currently flying, but like all pilots, he’d rather be in the sky. It takes a strong person to love a pilot.
She smiled, took my card and nodded. A few minutes later, she called me over to her campsite. Seems she was downloading books to her kindle and wanted the title of the book. Conversion to the hot side is always fun.

Shiny and New Second Chances

Buy One More Night HERE
By Wendi Zwaduk

I love the New Year. It’s a chance to start over. Okay, so in writing that’s not always easy or what an author wants to do, but in life it’s a great thing.

All the ills of the past can be forgotten. All the fun things remembered. In my family we try to create a collage of all the things we’ve done over the past year and a list of where we want to go camping for the New Year. We even map out the routes. Maybe that’s silly but it’s fun family bonding.

The New Year and a chance to start over both remind me of my 1Night Stand story, One More Night. Jenna and Drake just need that one last shot to see if the love they once shared is still there. Jenna’s past isn’t pretty and she hasn’t been able to get past it. She also needs a push to see that the past isn’t always worth holding on to—not when the future could be so much brighter. Drake knows more than Jenna has let on. He’s not bothered by her decisions, but would love a chance to make things better. He knows how strong they can be if they try again.

Maybe they need the New Year to grow the romance they’ve always wanted. Maybe!  Why don’t you snag a copy and check it out? Here’s the blurb and a snippet to tide you over!

Genre: Erotic romance, contemporary, BDSM
And now for that snippet:

“Drake?”
Shock spiraled through his veins. “I didn’t hear you. Taking lessons from your cat?”
“I took off my shoes.” Jenna inched up beside him and tossed her stilettos onto the floor. “Help me up?”
“You want to be here now?”
“I do. I planned all these things I wanted to say to you when I saw you again and I let my emotions get to me. I’m sorry I got snarky with you.” She flattened her hands on the counter and hopped onto the Formica surface. “There.”
“Nice.”
“I owe you a proper hello.” She rubbed her nose along his. “Hi, Drake. I’ve missed you.” She captured his mouth in a kiss.
Tingles surged down his spine. Heat settled in his belly and a groan bubbled in his throat. He smoothed his hands along her sides. Without breaking the kiss, she leaned closer and licked the seam of his lips. God, he loved when she took the lead. A glimpse of creamy skin caught his attention and he palmed her thigh.
Jenna shifted to the edge of the counter and wrapped her legs around him. Moving in time with her, he wedged one hand between their bodies and massaged circles down her belly to her pussy. His other hand touched the damp silk of her panties. He swallowed her gasp. The aroma of her arousal floated through the air. He memorized the way she smelled, like cinnamon and musk.
She broke the kiss first and rested her forehead on his. “You bring out the bad girl in me. I forgot how much I liked it.”
If he shoved her panties to the side, she’d let him grope her there in the reception room. He resisted the urge to go too far and moved her dress to repair her modesty. “You’re good at being bad.” With the pads of his fingers, he stroked down the length of her leg and caressed her ankle. The crimson polish on her toes glittered in the fluorescent light. “You always did like bare feet.”

Watching Airplanes

By Wendi Zwaduk

When I went to college, I had no idea I would end up being so interested in airplanes. Why? I was just a silly art student. Flying or learning how to fly never factored into what I wanted to do. But this is where romance, flying and my future all intersected.

Enter DH – the darling husband.

He’s a pilot and knows the ins and outs of airports. I thought he was cute. I got to know him and learned how to fly. Okay, so I’m not going to go up in the air any time soon. I never got my pilot’s license and landings aren’t really my thing. But spending time with him meant watching the Weather Channel to see what the weather would be wherever he planned to fly to.  We spent a lot of time hanging out at the airport talking to other pilots, helping out where needed and watching the planes take off and land. For most people, this probably wouldn’t be the most exciting way to date. There’s a lot that goes on at a smaller airport and yet, it can get pretty boring, too.

But I took a lot away from the time there. I know my Lear from my King Air, I know what a prop is versus a jet and I can tell you when the plane is coming in too high and hot.

All this information helped me to write my 1Night Stand novella, One More Night. I knew the hero was a pilot and I could understand his longing to fly when he can’t. Pilots are like Marines – once a pilot, always a pilot. They train their gaze to the sky and heaven help when you drive past an airport. They have to look. So I could identify with my hero—the good and the bad.

Then there was the heroine. She’s not super keen on flying—kind of like me when I met DH. She likes it enough to go along, but jet fuel is certainly not in her blood. But, the hero is. Quite a quandary, not knowing what you want even when he’s standing right in front of you.

Speaking of being in front of me, DH helped me with a critical scene in One More Night. Without him and his technical experience, I wouldn’t have been able to depict the scene with the proper detail. I’m glad I had him around for that—well, that and other things. Grin.

So what about you? Authors, how do your experiences enliven your books? And readers, same for you. How does the things you’ve been through color the way you read books? Hopefully when you read One More Night, you’ll feel the same zeal for flying I have.
