Personification of Death

by Louisa Bacio

How do you see Death? Most commonly through mythology, we imagine the image of the Grim Reaper – A dark-shadowed figure with a scythe. To others, it’s something akin to the Devil.
In my first 1Night Stand A Date with Death, readers don’t really see Death. The story opens in the “Waiting Room” outside Heaven. Likewise, the end-of-life adversary is something not-exactly tangible in the second book A Dance with Death. All of that changed in the latest book – Duel. Death appears more forceful, and present: An entity with his own desires.
As I’ve been writing this series all set in the same location within the 1Night Stand world, my own mythology has grown. Death has become a character, and you know what … he just may not be done.

A Duel with Death
After a tumultuous, fatherless childhood, Johnny Castillo tends to date women his mama doesn’t approve of, and for good reason. Tired of relationships that end badly, he turns to Madame Eve’s 1Night Stand dating service for help. He’s seen what her incredible matchmaking skills have done for his cousins and friends, and he’s open to her helping him find a woman he can have a future with. If that’s even possible.
Carmen Sanchez has put up a strong fight against the cancer attacking her body and she’s ready to start living life once more. With the results of her latest medical tests unopened and tucked in her purse, she enlists Madame Eve in her search for the right guy to share a weekend of lusty pursuits, before unsealing the envelope and discovering her fate.
But Johnny and Carmen’s date includes a battle where the stakes are high—life or death. Love may conquer all, but Death has something else in mind. Is their newfound love strong enough to win the battle?

A Dance with Death
She’s a classic…
After recovering from an injury and uncertain of her future in the world of
dance, ballerina Isabella treats herself to a dating service–some frolicking between the sheets before she decides what to do with the rest of her life is just the jeté her heart and mind needs.
He’s a bit more modern…
A successful music video choreographer, Raul is constantly surrounded by gorgeous dancers. But his life lacks a vitality and depth he needs to fuel his creative passion. He turns to a 1Night Stand to discover inspiration.
A dance between life and death…
When an accident threatens to cancel the evening of romance, Isabella and Raul will have to dance to a new beat. Can a dance with death change fate?

Death sucks. It’s boring, and there’s no chance of getting laid. Stuck in the waiting room of Heaven, Maise fantasizes about all the pleasures of the flesh she didn’t get to experience. When Maise discovers a business card for the dating service, 1Night Stand, she wonders if there’s still a chance.
Reece normally wouldn’t consider being set up, but after his brother buys him a certificate, he feels obligated. A romantic night on the Southern California coast, with the full-of-life Maise leaves him wanting more.
