By Gracen Miller
Sex. It’s a natural, beautiful act, so why is it
such a hush-hush topic with some individuals? Friends admit they love their
e-readers because no one knows they’re reading a “trashy romance novel”.
Hmm…I’ve never worried what others thought when I read something spicy.
Why is sex such a taboo topic? Why do we pretend
no one is doing it, especially when our TV shows and advertisement are riddled
with it? I mean, come on, we all know sex sells. And sells big. Then why is sex
on TV okay, but not in books? *blink* I don’t understand the double standard…especially
when orgasmic sex is so fantastic. We should be embracing the act!
Is it more taboo to read sex than watch it? Does
reading erotica stimulate us more than watching TV? God, I hope so! But what
does that say about us writers of the naughty stuff? A wicked mind is a
terrible thing to waste, eh? That’s my theory and I’m committed to it!
When I write a sex scene I want the reader to
feel everything as if they are living the experience along with the characters.
If the reader isn’t aroused, then I’ve failed them as an author. I want the booklover
turning to their significant other or grabbing a fresh set of batteries after
reading one of my scenes.
My suggestion…before you embrace the 1Night Stand
series, stockpile batteries and warn your significant other that he/she will be
called to active duty. ;-)

Fairy Casanova Blurb:
Las Vegas lawyer, Sadie Sinclair, has hit rock bottom. Bankrupt, with
her reputation ruined, and her fiancé is yachting Aruba with a hot babe.
Desperate for a break from reality, she contacts 1NightStand and is shocked to
discover she's been paired with a sexy fairy.
Jace is about to become King of the fairies. One minor glitch, he's
obsessed with humans. Before becoming King, he wants one night with a human
before he's forever forbidden from crossing into the human realm. After a
stellar night of sex, Jace is surprised to discover Sadie isn't just a human,
but his mate. Complicating everything
with the revelation, he's willing to forfeit his kingdom for her, but Sadie
must decide if he's worth the biggest gamble yet.
Fairy Casanova Excerpt:
Knocking
once to warn her of his arrival, he used the key card to let himself into the
room. The door clicked shut behind him as he scanned the room for his evening’s
companion.
“Hello,”
she said when their eyes met.
Her
sultry voice tempted him, much as a Siren lured a man to his demise against the
rocky coast of her island. His mortal Siren offered him a shy wave.
“Want a
drink?” She held up a goblet, half-full of amber liquor.
Her
edginess socked his acute fairy senses like a blow to the gut.
Interesting.
Why was she here then?
“No,
thanks.” He moved toward her, intrigued by the competing vibes the woman
evoked…reserved and salacious.
Maybe
other men found the arctic chill of her gaze daunting. He found it intriguing,
even challenging. Women would be envious and intimidated by her high-level
eroticism.
Stunning,
and nothing like the fairies he would command. Long, shiny, black hair framed
her oval face. He couldn't wait to get his fingers in the wavy locks.
Gunmetal-silver eyes warily watched him. Rimmed in a thin stripe of black
eyeliner and splashed with a smidge of dark-gray shadow, the contrast brought
out the stellar shade of her irises. High cheekbones, a slightly upturned nose,
and wide lips, naturally dark red, or she'd been biting them in anxiety. Unlike
the diminutive fairy-women, she was tall—not more than an inch or two shorter
than his five-ten height. Most female fairies barely reached his chest, which
made her a charming oddity. And she owned killer curves—again, unlike most
beanpole-thin fairies—and those curves were framed in an evocative, skintight,
black cocktail dress.
Jace
stopped in front of her and stared at her mouth. He knew many places he wanted
those lips, but mostly he wanted them rounded on an orgasmic scream.
“I'm
Jace.”
She swallowed
and cleared her throat, but her voice came out low and raspy. “Sadie.”
He dipped
his finger into the crystal glass she held poised below her chin. A fat droplet
of liquor clung to his forefinger, and he spread it across her pouty bottom
lip. Her eyes widened, and her breathing noticeably accelerated. As if
prompted, her tongue swiped away the moisture, and his cock twitched in
reaction.
“You're
perfect. Stunning.”
She
laughed, a charming sound, as a blush crept across her cheeks. For the first
time since beginning his adventure, he considered the horrible ramifications of
falling hard for a human. Impossible! There wouldn't be enough time to
grow attached to a one-night stand. Neither would his parents nor soon-to-be
subjects approve.

I don't think sex is such a taboo topic anymore, but when I grew up, it wasn't talked about, not outside the home or in mixed company and it was only talked about in whispers if then. I guess people were embarrassed to talk about it feeling it was something a husband and wife might only discuss. People are more open now and talk about sex more freely.
ReplyDeletee.balinski(at)att(dot)net
They are more open to it in some place, Joanne. I still live in a community and particularly in the south where sex isn't an open discussion. It's still very hush-hush, and I have been looked at differently by folks when they realize what I write. I have family members that are very displeased with me for writing what I do. My own mother asked me why I couldn't write something without sex in it. My mother in law has mentioned more than once that I'm going to hell for what I write.
ReplyDeleteI wish people were more open to the topic of sex where I live, but unless it's a close friend, sex is still hush-hush for my neck of the woods.
Thanks for the comment, Joanne! Good luck on winning!
Huggles,
Gracen
I don't understand why sex is so taboo either! We are all having it, some more than others, but alas it is being had! Thank God! And Gracen your scenes have never disappointed so far!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amanda. I hope my sex scenes never disappoint you in the future either! Thank GOD most of us are having it. But I actually have friends who hate sex and if they never had it again, they'd be content. I'd be a very ill person if I never had sex again.
DeleteHuggles,
Gracen
Hi Gracen :)) Yes..reading about it works for me. Seeing it...seems like an invasion of privacy even if it's on TV. LOL. Silly, since a million people are watching it but to me that makes it even creepier :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance to win one of your books :)))

LOL I guess I can see why the visual is stronger for you, but I don't hear as many negatives about racy shows as I do about the sex scenes I write. It's like because I'm thinking up these scenes--or reading them--it's worse than watching. *shrugs*
DeleteGood luck on winning!
Huggles,
Gracen
Like Gracen I live in a area that doesn't like talking about sex. It's more in you're friend circles that you talk.
ReplyDeleteAnd some of friends in the circle don't want to talk about it either. It's easy enough to figure out who they are, though.
DeleteGood luck on winning, Laura.
Huggles,
Gracen
It depends on whos in the scene in the show, but I would say most of the time I get much more aroused reading a steamy sex scene in a book. I think it's because when I read I am so much more focused on it and get pulled into the story. With tv there are far to many distractions so it's not as intimate.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same as you!
DeleteGood luck on winning.
Huggles,
Gracen
I think it's better to read a sex scene than to see it because it allows you to use your imagination. Thank you Gracen for the amazing books you write :) and thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading my books and participating in the contest. Reading them is better for me, too.
DeleteGood luck on winning.

Just wanted to let you know that the "Easy entry for all Groups/276166495812484/ fans on Facebook" is not working its saying it can't retrieve the page.
ReplyDeleteGreat post and I totally agree with the batteries and/or partner. These stories are extremely hot and good, too. :)

Definitely! A book writes the details but you make the fantasy your own by imagining the rest whereas tv just lays it out
ReplyDeleteIf its a really well written hot sex scene then yes it turns me on. I would be lying to say different and I think it would do the same to others.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch much TV...but I read a whole bunch and if I don't get a lil turned on by a sex scene i'm reading then i'm not really into the characters or the scene isn't hot enough.

ReplyDeleteReading about a sex scene on my e-reader arouses me more than watching TV. Although there are some great scenes on TV, it just doesn't do it for me, now if it was porn, that would help. When I read
ReplyDeletea great sex scene, I can visualize myself right there. And then I need a lot of batteries.
luvfuzzzeeefaces at yahoo dot com
Actually in books it arouses me more than with TV because usually I watch TV with my mom so no way am i getting "excited" over stuff in tv. It's just embarassing LOL. I am really looking forwad to reading your books! I am also excited to hear that you will be attending the Night Owl Review chat!
ReplyDeleteI much prefer to read a sex scene than see it. My imagination can take it so much farther than the actors. Not to mention, I like to put my own spin on it in the end.

Reading because I can use my imagination and picture myself in the scene lol

I like reading about sex scenes more than I do watching them.I feel like the emotions of the characters come across better in the books. I am NEVER shy or ashamed about what book I am reading. When I am asked what are you reading in a shocked tone I tell that person about the book. I leave nothing out in my description and then that person, more often than not, ends up reading the same book!! I have turned friends that didn't like to into readers just by doing this.
ReplyDeletemelissalamb(at)musfiber(dot)com
I would rather read it. Its much better to put my own visuals in there! Tree1313chevy@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI am NEVER ashamed of what I am reading. If it is a book, kindle or computer..I DONT CARE!
ReplyDeleteI think reading erotica is WAAAAY better than seeing it on TV. Reading is so much more intimate and personal I think. You have to play it out in your head instead of letting actors do it for you on TV. I love to read erotica.
I love to advertise ALL OVER FACEBOOK and Twitter when I find a great erotica that I must share with the world!
Reading allows you to see the movie play out in your head!
ReplyDeletetamariasoana@yahoo.com
i think that i am like most of the women i know in that i like to read about it more than watch it.
ReplyDeletebut i think it comes back to men being more visual and women more cerebral in their sex drives. at least that is what i was given to understand at one time.
i know when i am reading i am better able to build the scene in my head with the emotions than if i watch it on t.v.
