For nine long months, at the behest of the evil Ravenscorp, Mako Dolan has been hunting the space pirate they call The Saint. Now she’s finally lured her prey to a one night stand with a mysterious woman—herself. But Vin Sainte is not at all what she expected. Far from being a ruthless space pirate, his main occupation seems to be rescuing nuns, adopting orphans and praying like a champ.
For nine long months Vin Sainte has been fleeing the bounty hunter from one temporary refuge to the next. Now he’s got Mako exactly where he wants her: weak from gravity sickness and ripe for conversion. Problem is he didn’t expect a foul-mouthed, hard-as-nails bounty hunter to be such a devoted daughter. His head on a platter is Ravenscorp’s price for her mother’s freedom.
They have less than twenty four hours. One will win; one will lose. Mako might be a fearsome predator, but Vin has the Lord on his side. Who will win the bounty?
How freakin’ embarrassing. I’m wearing nothing but a draped towel, and a bloody dangerous space pirate is giving me goose bumps. He seemed to read her mind. The finger lifted and he spoke again. “I’m sorry, Makiko. I didn’t plan on our first meeting being quite like this.”
He had a delicious voice: deep and sonorous, with the drawled vowels of a born spacer. Mako reached down, pulled the towels and sheets around her, and rose to a sitting position. She shoved her hair back; it had dried in a crown of aggressive spikes. Trying to flatten them, she snuck her first peek at her elusive prey. Oh. My. God. The same face in the photo-pic, but so animated, so alive. His eyes were twinkling and the scar only added to the character of his face. Vin Sainte wasn’t just striking. He was undeniably and categorically…freakin’ gorgeous. She hadn’t breathed since she’d first seen him. She sucked in a deep breath and let it out slowly, wincing as she added a long mmmmmm to the sigh.
“But then again, I don’t think our meeting could be any better.” His lips quirked, spreading into an amused smile.
She felt like she’d been hit with an asteroid. She could feel him drinking her. Like…like…she was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen. His eyes shifted upward, his smile deepening.
“What a…unique hairstyle.”
Her hands shot to the resilient spikes, squeaking when she dropped the sheet that had covered her breasts. Grabbing it, she pulled it up to her chin. His eyes rose to hers, the scar through his brow enhancing his amused expression.
“I’m very happy to say you weren’t quite fast enough.”
What the hell? He’d caught a glimpse of the smallest breasts in the entire galaxy and was still enamored? Oh, lucky day! Her lips twitched. She fought it. Her lips won, and she grinned at him like a lovesick teenager.
“What sharp teeth you have. Do you bite, little Makiko?”
She did the unthinkable: she clutched at her sheet and giggled, her mind too fogged to come up with a sensible answer. I’m little? Me? I was the biggest, toughest girl in the colony school. He’d laid one finger on her and already had her in the wet spot. She wriggled in it with delight.
His grin expanded. “Let’s introduce ourselves properly.” He held out his hand. “I’m Vin Sainte.”
