The Holidays with the Wymans

Available HERE

By Lia Davis

Hi! Lia here and I’m standing outside the Wyman’s house. They have graciously asked me to come over for holiday cocktails. Of course this also gives me a change to get in an interview before hand. *wink*

For those of you haven’t meet the Wymans, let me give you a brief low down.
Darian Wyman was a widowed vampire with an adult daughter, Katrina, who still lives at home—it’s common among vampire clans to have their children stay at home until mated.

Emalee Black was a human who wasn’t so human. Her “not so human” part had made her hide away inside a witch’s coven, far away from the paranormal communities who thought she could be a threat.

The two of them were lonely and sought some excitement in their lives. What better way to find it than a 1Night Stand?

Here the blurb for their story, Ravished Before Sunrise.

Born with the unusual ability to see what truly lies in the shadows, Emalee Black is stuck between two worlds, the paranormal and the human. Neither one accepts or understands her and she's forced to live a quiet, boring life in hiding. When her best friend mentions 1Night Stand dating service, Ema chooses a role-playing adventure straight out of her romantic fantasies. She's to hunt her very own vampire and have her wicked way him.

Vampire Darian Wyman is surprised when his daughter signs him up for a one-night stand with an exclusive matching agency. At first he's appalled by the idea, but as he reads the details of the date he becomes intrigued. For one night he will get away from the life he has long grown tired of to be hunted and captured by a would-be huntress. But he has plans of his own for his little vixen.

However, when Darian discovers the truth about Ema's inhuman abilities, the date could end before it gets started.

Sounds great, doesn’t it? Now let’s get started with that interview:

I rang the doorbell to the large, stone-faced mansion and waited. It wasn’t my first visit to Darian and Emalee’s home, but each time I’m here, I can’t help but take in the beauty of it.
All it needed was a few gargoyles perched along the roof and it’d be prefect.
The door opened and I smiled at Katrina, Darian’s daughter. Her straight black hair hung loose around her shoulders, accenting her ice blues eyes. She smiled back. “I’d told father he should get a few gargoyles.”
Shoot. I forgot Kat can read minds. “I might put a buzz in his ear as well.”
Kat laughed and stepped aside. “Please come in. Ema will be down in a moment.”
“Just Ema?”
Sighing, Kat nodded. “Father was called into the work. One of the clients are freaking out about something.”
“Ah,” I said and walked into the living room.
The biggest indoor tree I’ve ever seen sat in the far corner decorated in red, gold, and silver. Scanning the room, I noticed that almost every inch of the place had garland and lights either wrapped around it or draped over it.
Kat laugh softly. “Ema loves Yule. We had a blast decorating.”
“Lia!”
I turned to Ema’s voice and smiled. Her red hair was pulled back in a ponytail and she wore a light green sweater that matched her eyes and faded blue jeans. When she reached me, she drew me into a tight hug. “It’s been too long.”
“I know. Sorry.”
Ema waved off my apology, took my hand, and pulled me to the sofa. She sat, tugging me with her. I studied her for a moment and my heart warmed. She was happy and very much in love. I could tell by the way her green eyes sparkled and her skin held an almost magical glow to it. Well, not quite a glow, more like an otherworldly shimmer.
I heard it was like that when one is mated to the vampire.
“How is that vampire of yours?”
Ema’s cheeks turned pink. “He’s wonderful.”
Kat sighed. “I’ll just go up to my office now. You two have fun.”
Ema and I waved bye as Kat jogged up the stairs.
“She’s been working too hard,” Ema said with a sad note in her tone.
“She should take a vacation.”
With a sigh, Ema said, “That’s what I told her, but she is as stubborn as her father.”
I nodded. Darian was pretty stubborn and I can totally see that trait in Kat. “So, this is the second Yule you’ve spend with Darian. Any new traditions you started?”
“Well, we celebrate twice since Darian has Christian roots from when he was human. We spend Winter Solstice with coven and we spend Christmas day together with Kat watching the parade, old movies, and have friends over for dinner.” Ema paused to think. “That’s it. Just enjoy the holidays with friends and family.”
“That sounds nice.”
Ema smiled. “It is. Oh! Look at the time. What you like to help me get the appetizers ready? Darian should be back soon.”
“Sure.” I rose and followed her to the kitchen, which was almost as big as the living room.
Ema buzzed around the kitchen, humming while she pulled out items from the cabinets then the refrigerator. I smiled, not able to stop myself. Her happiness was just so infectious. It’s amazing how one night changed her whole life.

Names and the characters that have them

Buy Ravished Before Sunrise HERE

By Lia Davis
Names in romance are one of the most import steps of character development. Well, at to me. It has to sound right, roll off the tongue nicely, and compliment the character’s personality. Everyone has a different way of selecting names for their characters. I use a site called Behind the Name (http://www.behindthename.com/). This is a great site with lots of information.

When picking a name, first I try to fit the meaning of the name with the character’s personality and if that doesn’t work, I search until I find one that fits. Okay, so that didn’t make too much sense. Let me explain.

Darian from my new release, Ravished Before Sunrise, is a vampire. I wanted a name that fit his dark, yet compassionate personality. I came across his name and said it a couple of time to see how it sounds. Speaking it out loud sometimes helps me chose.

Emalee actually came to me when I first started writing. But I wasn’t too sure what to do with her, until I started reading the 1Night Stand series.

Picking names is fun. I like to search around for that perfect name that says so much about the character.

Lia will be giving away a $5 Starbucks GC, a handmade book thong, and a swag pack.

Excerpt:
Emalee’s pulse raced as she drummed her fingers on her desk and searched the website. A giddiness she hadn’t known since senior prom ran through her. The site claimed unlimited possibilities, a chance for adventure. Could they mean it? Because she’d already seen things beyond what humans deemed possible. Hell, her whole existence was unimaginable.

Her life had taken a lonesome turn when a friend she hadn’t seen since high school noted how much younger than the rest of her classmates she looked.  Her long-lasting youth had become a liability. Drawing too much attention to her unusual gift wouldn’t prove wise. In some cases, it could get her killed.  With no alternative, she’d closed the door on her life among humans and moved into the local witch coven, where everyone was different.

“What will you do?” Her best friend since preschool, a coven member in good standing, sat next to her for moral support and encouragement. Ema didn’t need much encouragement. The second Beth had mentioned a one-night stand, she’d been hooked. And Madame Eve’s dating service would save her from dying of boredom, at least for one night.

But could she go through with it? A wicked smile tugged at her lips and her inner voice said, “Hell, yeah.” Human strangers gave her a sense of safety. They knew nothing about her past or her unusual abilities.

“Just one night?”

Interview and Giveaway with Emalee Black from Ravished Before Sunrise

Buy Ravished Before Sunrise HERE

Hi! Lia Davis here and I have Emalee with me today sharing a little bit of her life since the one-night stand where she met her sexy vampire mate.

Lia: Hi, Ema! Thanks for coming.
Ema: Hi. You’re welcome. I love these interviews.

Lia: As you know I met with Darian last week. Well in our interview the subject of children came up. He said you are a little hesitant on the idea. Can you share your point of view?
Ema: *rolls her eyes* I do believe that vampire of mine has stretched things a little. I simply had told him that I would like to have him to myself a little longer before bring a baby in the mix.
Lia: So you want children?
Ema: Of course. But before meeting Darian, I believed it would never happen. I just have to rethink the possibilities.
Lia: And your demon status has nothing to do with it.
Ema: *Frowns and peers down at her hands* A little, yes. I’m worried that I will harm the baby. *she sighs and looks back up at me* I just need to do more research.
Lia: I’m sure you and Darian will work it out. And I wouldn’t worry too much. I think you would make a wonderful mother.
Ema: *smiles* Thanks

Lia: What is your favorite part of Darian?
Ema: His heart because despite his demonic nature, he’s the most compassionate man I’ve ever met. And his eyes, because now I believe in a future I’d thought I’d never have when I look into them.

Lia: Favorite childhood memory.
Ema: The day I meet Beth and moved into the coven. I realized I wasn’t alone in my weirdness.

Lia: Favorite vacation spot.
Ema: It used to be camping in the mountains. Now my favorite spot is in the French Apps, where Darain and I met.

Lia: Thanks so much to chatting with me.
Ema: You’re welcome. It was a pleasure.

Interview and Giveaway with Darian from Ravished Before Sunrise

Buy Ravished Before Sunrise HERE

by Lia Davis
Hi all! It’s been a while since I had the chance to sit down with Darian for a little Q&A. He has graciously agreed to chat with me. Well, his assistant scheduled me an appointment. While I sit in the reception area of his penthouse office suite, I’ll fill in those who may not have read his story. And of course remind those who have read it, but may have forgotten.

Darian was signed up for a 1Night Stand by his concerned daughter, Katrina. I do believe that Darian doesn’t have any regrets now. He and Emalee seem to be very happy.

*Darian’s office door opens and he steps out to great me*

Standing and walking toward him with a smile, I say, “Thanks so much to seeing me.”

“I always make time for the ladies in my life.”

I blush and avert my gaze. It’s an honor, kind of, to be considered as one of his ladies, which consisted of Emalee, his new mate, and Katrina, his daughter.

After taking our seats in the way to comfy sitting area inside his large office, I jump right into the interview. Darian is a very busy man…well, vampire after all.

Lia: What drew you to Emalee?
Darian: Her free spirit, courage, and strength.

Lia: What is your favorite part of her?
Darian: All of her from her red hair to her toes.

Lia: Favorite childhood memory.
Darian:  *lifts a brow* That was a very, very long time ago.
Lia: How long are we talking?
Darian: *chuckles* Let’s just say electricity was invented yet.

Lia: Okay, fine. Favorite vacation spot.
Darian: Anywhere Ema is.

Lia: Favorite eye color?
Darian: green

Lia: Care to share future plans?
Darian: After I convince Ema that our future children will not be demonic vampiric little monsters, we will start a family. At least Kat is on my side. She’s been begging for a little sister.
Lia: Aww. Kat will make a great big sis. Thanks so much for the interview.
Darian: Anytime.

Thank you for coming by. And for the record, I really don’t think Ema thinks their future children will be monsters. I’ll have to get her side of that story…

The Hectic World of Life

Buy Ravished Before Sunrise HERE!

By Lia Davis
At times there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Okay, so there are never enough. LOL.  I go to work with a 2 hour drive time (around trip), write, blog, promote, spend time with the hubs, and feed everyone. Oh, and I have to sleep, right? That is just the daily routine of the work week (Monday-Friday). I have a little more time on the weekends to write and catch up on blogs, but other duties suck up most of it, like shopping for food to feed the family, clean house (Why can’t I have a self-cleaning house?), and laundry. I’m sure I missed something. I’m on autopilot so much it blurs together.

What about ‘me’ time? I just don’t get it too much. Being a mom and wife has put me into the habit of giving and never doing anything for myself. There are times I forget because I’m so use to doing for others and overwhelmed with everything going on (that’s the autopilot thing). Playtime just doesn’t fit into my schedule.

Recently I hit a low and needed to squeeze in some time to read, go to the beach, or simply sit and watch a little TV with my husband. I was working overtime at the day job and trying to finish my WIP (work in progress) to send it off to my editor. I couldn’t think, nothing was working and I was about to run away from home. Not really, but the thought was intriguing. LOL. I found out that a little time to step away from everything helps me focus when I’m ready to get back to work. So now I do schedule in ‘playtime’, even if it only 30 minutes a day. It nice to have that break from the normal routine, to do something different.

Some of my favorite ‘me’ time activities are reading and just being with my hubby. What do you like to do to get away from the hectic life duties?

Things That Inspire the Muse

By Lia Davis
My muse is the very active creative side of my brain. I don’t have a name or image for my muse. I just call her “my muse”. LOL. She can find a storyline at the strangest times and with just about anything she sees, hears and even in a thought.

Stories come to me as a “What if…?” and can be sparked by just about anything such as a picture, music, TV, reading, people watching, a trip to the mall and sitting in traffic during my commute to and from work. I’ve even had ideas come to me during conversations with friends. Sometimes it’s an expression they use or a certain word or phrase that gets my muse’s attention. I’m sure there are many other different ways writers find inspiration that brings the initial storyline to mind.

My inspiration for my 1Night Stand, Ravished Before Sunrise, was reading other stories in the series and my love for vampires and the paranormal. They are awesome and fun reads. So I wanted to write one and sat down a plotted the characters and storyline.

I’ve also had a weird dream that inspired a story. I started writing it as soon as I got up so I didn’t forget, but I’m not sure what to do with it yet. It was during my first year of writing and needs a LOT of help.

Have you ever had an idea, whether it was related to writing or some other project you were working on, that seem to come from an unlikely source? Please share your inspirations.
