The
best part of Halloween for me always has been the dressing up. I love getting
into character and becoming somebody different. I think I can remember every
costume I’ve worn, from my very first one, a bunny rabbit -- to my last one, a hooker. As
a child, I enjoyed the scary part of Halloween and usually chose my costumes to
reflect that. I was a witch, a devil, a vampire.
Once
in high school, I cut two eye holes into a sheet and went as a ghost. Not
creative, but great fun as I refused to reveal who I was and had all the kids
guessing.
In
college, my boyfriend and I dressed up as a caveman and cavewoman. I purchased
some faux fur and sewed a dress for me and a loincloth for him. We went to a
party, and then to The Rocky Horror Picture Show afterwards with him wearing
only his loincloth (my recollection is that he did have shorts on underneath).
At
one place I worked, the staff dressed up every Halloween. One year I went as a
housewife – I put my hair in curlers, carried a skillet, and wore my robe and
slippers to the office. Other costumes were more detailed. As an alien, I was
silver from head to toe: – my wig, antenna,
face paint and clothing.
My
most favorite costume ever was the hooker one; it unleashed my inner vixen. I wore
fish net stockings, a micro mini, a lacy nothing-there top and heavy makeup. I
have some great photos (which are currently in deep storage or I would have
shared them). I hosted a Halloween party that year and two friends also dressed
as hookers and two others as pimps. My husband, who I was dating at the time,
came as tourist. He kind of looked like a john. My party had an unintended
theme!

A Scent of Longing:
Lily
Dansen refuses to date vampires. The
last time she trusted a one, he turned her. She agrees to a date arranged by 1
NightStand, believing that a quick tryst is all that’s left for her.
A 376-year-old half-vampire, half
human Luc Fortier can’t continue to satisfy the vampire fantasies of young
ladies while his dreams go unfulfilled. He vows to bedazzle one last date
before he calls it quits.
Neither Luc nor Lily expect more than
an evening of passion, but they haven’t counted on Madame Eve’s superior
matchmaking skills.
My favorite costumes have actually been my mom's old dress up/disco clothes from the seventies. I've worn several of her old outfits and am always told my costumes are the best.

My favorite costume was the clown costume my grandmother made me when I was a kid. It had stripped vest and pants, big shoes, the giant haired wig, and even the red nose. It was a lot of fun and made everyone laugh.

I love my vampire costume. The long flowing black dress and cape just felt so wicked,

My favourite is a black kaftan covered in electric blue embroidery with a cape and witches hat to complete. As they came into the house, my sons' friends (20+) all gave their version of "Cool costume". Admittedly, some phrasing was a little 'blue' but I appreciated the approval. carolineatoye@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite costume was when I dressed as a half man/half woman. That was fun! I would respond as either a man or woman depending on the side the other person was standing by.

In Australia, Halloween is not a big thing. If I were to have a costume, it would be Zeena Warrior PRincess. annpa@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI once dressed as a bee with a pair of my husband's checked pants on my head and I wore a pair and stuffed them with a towel to give me a big bum, and I had to get to the party by bus. That was interesting!
ReplyDeleteI dressed up as Abby from NCIS and it's to this day my favorite costume. :)
