You’ll Love It. Trust Me

By Stephanie Beck

I think we all have friends like this—the ones who are passionate about something and therefore believe you should join in. I’m sure I’m guilty of the same—if I love it, by golly, you’ll love it too.
Word of mouth and friendly nudges can kick of trends and fads and sometimes build the lasting reputations of things. I look around my house and I see pieces of my friends’ and family’s opinion. Books. Movies. The color of my coffee cups (and my mom was right—I love my green cups). All these things and more—based on a nudge or opinion of someone else.

How powerful suggestion can be! I try not to take it in the things that truly matter, but I’m willing to try a new brand of pineapple or pick up a different style of knitting needles if my buddy recommends it.
Speaking of recommendations, have you tried out the 1 Night Stand Series? There are literally hundreds of the amazing stories available right now, but why not start at the beginning? You wouldn’t want to miss books 1-10 after all (especially #8). They’ll fire up your ereader, spice up your afternoon and I’m no expert, but I swear they cleared up the red spot on my forehead...or maybe they made me blush so much my red cheeks took the focus from my other blemishes. Either way, sounds great, right?
Get yours today!

Maggie Chase has a wild night of passion planned with the help of Madame Evangeline’s dating service, 1NightStand. A single night with an incredible man, what more can a busy girl ask for?

Sam Peterson requests that Madame Evangeline help him find a woman who isn’t after him for his money. Maggie may just fit the bill, but with her list of fantasies in hand, she may be more than he bargained for.

Forever isn’t on either one of their minds, but maybe it doesn’t have to be.

Olympic 1Night Stand!

Available HERE
By Stephanie Beck

The only time you’ll see Stephanie Beck sit down and watch a hockey game is during the winter Olympics. Only time. I don’t like hockey, cross country skiing, snowboarding...yeah, I just don’t find them interesting. However, I love the Olympics, and for a magical 16 days every four years, I rearrange my schedule so I can watch as many events as possible.

More than just the events though, I love the Olympians’ back stories. The struggles and triumphs are amazing and humbling. They make me happy. A while back I read something about the Olympic village being hook up central—which totally makes sense to me. After all that pressure, of course there is going to be some, um, exploding.

My husband rolls his eyes when it comes to the relationships. He doesn’t see the reason for the relationship statuses and who is hooking up with whom is shared. I see the reason and while I don’t think it is the most important thing, I like knowing that at least some of the athletes found someone with similar goals and schedules and loves to be with. Those qualities turn what could be a classic one night stand into something much more. And who doesn’t get all doe eyed when two people who work so very hard achieve (or fall short) of success and jump into each others’ arms? (Well, my husband is one who doesn’t, but I get big-eyed enough for both of us).

Do you have a favorite Olympic event or story? Share it for a chance to win Panties Optional, my contribution to the amazing 1NS series.

Pulling Strings

Available HERE

By Stephanie Beck

The other day my daughter picked out a god-awful shirt. It was so ugly. Just...hideous. However, at nine years old, my daughter has a unique style and is getting to the point where she does make many of her clothing choices. I was in a tough spot. Buy the ugly shirt (which was on clearance and definitely within the limit I’d given her) or gently nudge her in a different direction.

I’m not the most subtle person, so the nudging isn’t always my strong suit. I also had to remind myself that it was a three dollar shirt, not a long term commitment. Sure, I’d have to see the shirt over breakfast some mornings, but I could also suggest adding a sweatshirt.

Long story short—she is the proud owner of a very, very ugly shirt. She’s happy, I’m resigned and really, no damage was done. I think this whole thing earns me a ‘mom star’.  It shouldn’t be so hard to get into the habit of having my kids make and then live with their choices—I think I can get the hang of it with enough practice.

Now, if only I can remember this lesson and the outcome when she starts dating. I have this desire to play Madame Eve, and have the perfect guy for her lined up along the way, ready to meet when the time is just right...for a nice happily ever after happening when my daughter is in her late 20’s and I’m ready to be a grandmother.

Speaking of pulling strings, Madame Eve made a few things happen in Panties Optional—Maggie and Sam didn’t complain either!

What to do in just 1 Night

By Stephanie Beck
For the most part, I get stuff done. Usually pretty efficiently, at a reasonable price and it just might have glitter on it. Except laundry and dishes—those things are done at a rate that won’t make me crazy and I stopped adding glitter when my husband complained.

So, the thought of one crazy night meant for anything or everything brings up loads of possibilities. I love that the 1NS series brings so many possibilities with so many back stories to one great place led by the oh so wise Madam Eve. What would I do with what I thought was just *one night*?

Oh man...the possibilities. I’m thinking good food, yummy drinks, fun atmosphere, maybe a little shopping—where sparkly things would need to be bought. That would handle things until about, oh, 8:30 ish. From there, with new sparkles on, maybe there would be an art museum visit, some bowling, a stop for ice cream, a late night pedicure. Another stop for drinks—something distinguished this time (you know, like a brandy alexander) where there is a piano player keeping things swanky. So, figure that would take us to near midnight. Then, if my nature held true, I’d be asleep in the passenger seat on the drive home.

Obviously my 1NS night would be far too busy for anything too sexy and I’d be too tired anyway—and my loving husband would totally expect that. He’s a good fella. Thank goodness for the 1NS series—where all the exciting things happen!

What would you add to your perfect 1NS evening out? More glitter? More baseball?

The Love Line

by Stephanie Beck

Ideally, in every story there are certain lines that smack you right in the heart. When I was growing up I kept a wall of quotes in my bedroom. I was an avid reader so I was always adding to them and the great thing: most of them came from romance novels.
Oh sure, I had a few scholars on my wall and in my locker (yes, it invaded my locker as well), but mostly I had quotes from characters from my favorite authors. I wish I still had the stack because there were some doozies. Nora Roberts has always been my go-to girl for stand out character quotes that stay with me.

There was one from Carolina Moon where the main man, Cade, threatened to tear out some guy’s balls and shove them down his throat—or something of the like. I remember using that book for a book report and my teacher at the time not loving that quote. It didn’t bother me, though. The quote resonated for me because at the time I was very self confident in my role as a protector in my family and for my friends. I liked the badassedness of the quote—it spoke to me.

This love of mine for memorable quotes makes me look at my own work and make sure there’s that line, that something special that speaks to me. Sometimes it’s a poignant, life changing moment and sometimes it’s not. I never quite know when a line will hit me and over the years I’m sure different things stand out.

What sort of lines jump out for you? Humor? Romantic? Life-truths? I think I most get struck by life-truths that fit me at the moment and really great romantic lines.

All the best,

Stephanie Beck
