Favorite Reading Spot

One of my favorite memories of my mom is how important summer reading was to her. As soon as school finished, we would go to our local bookstore and stock up. Mom encouraged me to make a special reading spot I could go to escape into other worlds and adventures. She said it should be quiet where I couldn’t be bothered…ah…interrupted by anything or anyone. Her favorite spot was in a rocking chair under a tree in front of our cottage at the lake. She always had a TBR pile that would make any author proud.  To this day, Mom still reads A LOT and I have my favorite reading spot.
Well… when I’m not writing it is also my reading spot. When we built our log home in the woods, I designed our 8’x60’ porch to be an extension of our living space. We spend time on the porch in all weather watching birds, doing crafts, puzzles, games, eating socializing and of course reading (and writing).

Tables, chairs and décor came from scouring rummage sales. Hubby made the newest table from old deck wood. A few cushions and pillow add to comfort. My reading spot is not far from the grill master of the house. Sometimes the kids join me otherwise they keep their rambunctious activities in the yard.
I often see neighbors sitting on their porches or under a tree reading. Friends post photos on line of reading poolside while their kids are busy.

Do you have a favorite spot to escape to?  Where is your reading spot?

Where are they Now?

By Deanna Wadsworth

For those of you who love short stories, the 1Night Stand series is very popular. You get an exciting setting, two great lead characters, steamy sex and a HFN. But as with all HFNs, readers want to know what happens next! Well in my book, Bear it All, you meet young Travis who has a hankering for big, older, hairy guys. Cue John, the bear of Bear it All. Readers can get a sneak peek of their HEA in Wendy’ Burke’s The One He Chose, where we learn that Travis and John are living in Ann Arbor and building a house together.
But where are they now?
Well, as you may remember, Travis had just taken the bar and wanted to become a child advocate and John was teaching law at UofM. Travis passed, of course, and now he is a guardian ad litem at Washtenaw County Court office. He loves his job. John continues to teach, and spending his free time in the small vegetable garden he talked Travis into putting in their back yard. Travis prefers to go organic by shopping at Whole Foods, and makes sure John doesn’t get carried away with his garden and annoys their suburban neighbors or break any rules of the development rules.
Their house has become the place to watch the Ohio State vs Michigan game and every year the transplanted Buckeye, Travis goes all out to taunt John, even wearing full scarlet and grey to the Michigan hospitality tents with John’s coworkers. Last year Travis even bought a blow up Brutus and had him holding a decapitated wolverine in their front yard, which the neighborhood committee made him promptly take down due to a complaint from his own household. But it is all in good fun and John has big plans to best Travis in this game this fall.
Aside from an occasional, “Is this your son?” from a stranger, most of their friends and family barely notice their age gap anymore, and some of Travis’ friends refer to them as the old married couple, ‘Jonvis’.
Still, the happy couple does feel a few things are missing in their lives. Since their home state of Michigan bans same sex marriage, they are taking a trip to Chicago this weekend to check out possible wedding venues. They haven’t told anyone their plans, but they are hoping for a late summer wedding, right before John starts his fall semester. And of course, a honeymoon at Castillo Resorts in Turks and Caicos where their romance began!
Once that little piece of paper shows the world what they have known in their hearts from their first night together, they are considering adoption. John insists he is too old for babies and Travis has always wanted to make a difference in a child’s life, give them the chance he never had. So they’re hoping to adopt an older boy, or perhaps siblings the system cannot find homes for.
Whether any children turn out to be Wolverines or Buckeyes is anybody’s guess, but one thing is for sure they will be growing up in a home full of laughter and love.

Bear it All—A 1 Night Stand Story

Travis hired 1Night Stand hoping for a hot encounter with a sexy older, hairy man, someone to make him feel safe and cherished, and John looks custom made to order.
After losing his partner three years ago, John needs to learn how to open his heart and live again. He thinks a one night stand in the Caribbean might be the answer, but when he sees the young, thin and much smaller Travis, he thinks the agency sent the wrong man.
Can desire overcome misunderstanding when these two bear it all? Or will both men walk away from exactly what they need and desire?

Deanna Wadsworth might be a bestselling erotica author, but she leads a pretty vanilla life in Ohio with her wonderful husband and a couple adorable cocker spaniels. She has been spinning tales and penning stories since childhood, and her first erotic novella was published in 2010. When she isn’t writing books or brainstorming with friends, you can find her making people gorgeous in a beauty salon. She loves music and dancing, and can often be seen hanging out on the sandbar in the muddy Maumee River or chilling with her hubby and a cocktail in their basement bar. In between all that fun, Deanna cherishes the quiet times when she can let her wildly active imagination have the full run of her mind. Her fascination with people and the interworkings of their relationships have always inspired her to write romance with spice and love without boundaries.

La Isla del Encanto

Hopefully the Spanish title grabbed your attention and now you’re asking, what the hey? My release, Tropical Paradise, takes place in beautiful Puerto Rico, where the sun, sand, and the sea are in abundance.
As a Latina, the island paradise is near and dear to my heart. Beautiful men and women grace the island’s beaches everyday soaking up the sun and looking for love. So, I decided, what better place than this scrumptious back drop for my 1Night Stand?
Writing Tropical Paradise was fun as I mapped the island in my mind, knowing that I had been there or could pinpoint any of the places. The drive from the airport in San Juan towards the coast, the sun shining brightly and the radio blaring. Every word written was a memory come to life and fueled my desire to tell Leo and Skyler’s story.
What you may find ironic is that out of everyone in my family, I am the least beachy-heat person. My family laughs as they ask, what kind of Latina are you, since you hate the heat and sand? What can I say- I may be Latina hot and have a Latin temper, but the heat is not my friend! I think is another life I was Eskimo and not Latina.
I am my own oxymoron, but that’s what makes me unique and this Chica loves unique. So, how about a contest? Is there something that makes you an oxymoron or very unique? Like me, do you love snow to be measured in feet not inches while maintaining a Latin flair?
Leave a comment and don’t forget your email address so Decadent can send a copy of Tropical Paradise to the winner.

A Date on a Space Station?

By Jessica E. Subject
With my 1Night Stand stories, I try to make some aspect of the story unusual, something that has not been done before. I’ve had alien characters, set the story on another planet, and one even on a spaceship. With Unknown Futures, since none of the main characters are aliens, I decided to make the setting part of the story.
Unknown Futures is set on a space station. Though not like the space station Chris Hadfield was the Commander on not too long ago. This space station has hotel rooms, a portal to travel there from Earth, tubes to ride in between floors, and an amazing dance club.
Here are some television shows and movies that are set on a space station. Some of them may have the same features as the one in my story.

Gravity
Elysium
The 100
Babylon 5
Ender’s Game
Battlestar Galactica
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Star Wars (Death Star)
2001: A Space Odyssey
Fantastic Four
Solaris
Wall-E
Galaxy High School

And here’s an excerpt with details about the space station in Unknown Futures:

V stopped, her arms dropping to her side. “We’re about to go in the tube. It’s a transportation system for getting around the station. I admit, it feels really weird, but it’s the fastest way to my place.” She smiled at a giant bug who seemed to have dropped from the sky. It waved a long, skinny limb before skittering off down the hall. “Since you’ve never traveled this way before, I’m going to hold your hands and we’ll go through together.”
V pressed a green button on the wall then linked their fingers. Jewel had no time to comprehend how the transport worked before they were sucked up into the air then shot through a narrow cylinder. She now knew what traveling through a shop vac would feel like. If she hadn’t been so worried about hitting someone else along the way and how she’d land, she could have enjoyed her proximity to V. No matter how much she tried to deny her feelings, she enjoyed her touch.
When they dropped out of the pipe, V reached out for her, but Jewel wasn’t ready for the impact. She crumpled to the ground, pulling the other woman down on top of her.

Character Interview – Rob from One Night with the Bridesmaid

Rob Wellington, the hero of One Night with the Bridesmaid is a busy guy, but Sara Daniel has managed to snag him for a quick interview.

Hi Rob, come over here on the sofa and put your feet up. What would you like to drink--tea, coffee, wine?

Scotch. Actually, any kind of whiskey will do.

So what does a movie director do, exactly? Can you describe your typical day?

As a movie director, I’m responsible for bringing a story to life in a way to will resonate with viewers, entertain them for a couple hours, and hopefully give them a broader perspective on the world. In reality, I spend way too much time dealing with high-maintenances actors and actresses obsessed with stardom, regardless of how many people they have to step on to get there… Pass the whiskey, please.

I heard you've been to a rather eventful wedding recently--your brother’s? What juicy details are you at liberty to divulge?

I arrived in town on what was supposed to be the eve of my brother’s wedding. I planned my entire movie production schedule around the date, so I could be there, only to discover it had been called off. After a little digging (and a lot of whiskey), I further discovered the maid of honor had been doing most of the wedding planning. It didn’t take much to figure out she wanted my brother to herself. Well, she’s going to have to go through me first, and believe me, I won’t be so easy to fool.

On the topic of weddings--what are your views on marriage in general? Is there still such a thing as Happily Ever After?

If you couldn’t tell, I’m pretty cynical. Everyone I meet wants the power and fame I can help them achieve. They don’t care about me. And if they find someone who has more of both, well, then they’re not interested in me. So, yeah, in theory I think marriage should be for love and the big Happily Ever After. But good luck finding anyone pure enough to achieve that kind of perfection.

Can you describe your "perfect girlfriend?" If you ran into her--say...on a blind date--what do you think would happen?

I suppose the “perfect girlfriend” would have a pure motivation and would like me for me and not want my money or fame. Does such a woman exist? I sincerely doubt it. The odds that I would meet her on a blind date—well, that’s absolutely ludicrous. If by some miracle I did, though, I’d be a fool to let her get away.

Oh dear, it looks like you have to run. One parting question--would you ever consider having a one night stand with a total stranger? There are girls out there who would like to know...

Being in the limelight, a guy can’t be too careful. Just because a woman’s a stranger to me, she likely knows all too well who I am and is hoping to propel her own acting career by association. Girls, find someone else. I’m not interested in being used.

Thanks for dropping by, Rob. For those who’d like to spend more time drooling over, ur, reading about him, check out One Night with the Bridesmaid.

Gifted with a 1Night Stand, Sabrina Lopez decides to use the chance to hook up with a man who knows how to give a woman pleasure—a man she’d never have the nerve to approach in real life. Madame Eve exceeds her expectations with the opportunity of a lifetime—and the man of her dreams, movie director Rob Wellington. He might be out of her league, but she’s willing to risk it all for one night.

Believing Sabrina responsible for breaking up his brother’s wedding, Rob sets out to stop her from scamming her way into the groom’s bed—even if he has to take his brother’s place. The last thing he expected to discover was a woman he could love and hold for the rest of his life—if he can convince her that he wants more than one night….

New Review for Lover Enslaved

I recently received a new review for Lover Enslaved from MM Good Book Reviews. Believe it or not, I always read reviews, good or bad. Why? Because if they are goodn I’m glad, and if they are so-so or critical, I always learn something. Yep. I do. Especially when it’s about areas where my writing could be improved. I didn’t see any suggestions on that in this review, but I did notice she mentioned my dedication:
It hints at the front that people wanted Thomas and Arjun’s story so I feel as if this comes from another book and I really, really want to read that, too.
I wish that I did have another book based on Thomas and Arjun, but I do not. However, there is a possibility that I could either 1. Write another 1NS set in India, or 2. Write a spin-off 1NS story. The people in the front of the book who wanted to see Tomas and Arjun’s story published were my local writers group. A bunch of gals that normally don’t even read romance who agree to critique my work. I appreciate their willingness to read my smexyness! I’ll give you a sample of that below.

Here’s the blurb for Lover Enslaved:
Stranded for twenty-four hours in Mumbai, India, contract negotiator, Thomas Barkley searches for a man who can make him forget his pain. When a trip through the red light district leaves him cold, he turns to Madame Eve’s service and finds a shot at redemption—but first, he has to survive it.
Indian male prostitute, Arjun Mukesh, begged Madame Eve to set him up for one night of real pleasure. He knows better than to expect anything but a brief hiatus from his miserable life. When Thomas showers Arjun with tender and very real affection, his heart begins to ache for the more than a taste of the life he cannot have. Unfortunately, his boss Ranjeet won’t to let him go without a fight.
Amidst a spray of bullets, Thomas must convince Arjun to take a chance on a new life in America before it’s too late for both of them.

Excerpt:
Reveling in the gorgeous sight, Arjun came as well, something he never did with his clients, a part of himself he never let them see. This was Thomas, who already seemed a part of him. Not like a client but…a true lover. He came over his belly, the liquid warmth culminating their joining. The very real affection he felt for Thomas nearly breaking his heart.
The impact of Thomas collapsing on him stole his breath, sending waves of delicious security over him. His heart clenched and he closed his eyes, embracing Thomas and holding tight for however many seconds the glorious pleasure would last.
“Arjun.” Thomas kissed his neck, up the side of his face, his forehead, his lids, his nose, his chin, and then the other side. All the while, his fingers caressed and traced over the welts covering his back as though trying to erase them, replacing the bitter memories with new ones. With love.
Tears formed, unwelcome. No, he couldn’t think like that. The idea this man could really love him was too far-fetched.
Thomas gave him a squeeze. “That, Arjun, is how a man is supposed to make love. Do you understand the difference now?”
He whined out a soft “yes,” and Thomas immediately covered his mouth with a sweltering kiss. He melted into it with his whole heart and soul.
Long moments later, Thomas broke the kiss and sighed. “Arjun, that was…perfect. You’re perfect.” Thomas lifted him from the bed. “Now, let’s get you cleaned up.”
Thomas cradled him in his arms all the way to the shower, then set him on his feet gently. Protecting him from the first cold blasts of spray, he adjusted the water temperature. Then, even in the shower, he caressed and soothed with his hands. Arjun felt…cherished. Pampered. A piece of his heart he hadn’t known existed flowered into happiness and drifted freely toward the light, bringing more tears. He buried his head in Thomas’ shoulder and let the salty drops mix with the water and fall. They’re only tears from a whore. They are of no consequence.
Thomas washed them, his devilish hands partly fixed to their task but lingering in certain areas guaranteed to arouse heat. Before long, their cocks had hardened again.
“Ready for more?” Thomas asked.
“Yes, please.”
Thomas pinned him to the shower stall with his soapy body, rubbing his mouth and cock against him relentlessly, opening him to more long, slow loving. And, once more, storm clouds gathered in Arjun’s heart, drowning him with sorrow for a love he could never possess.

HEA for Dragons?

By: Kali Willows

Dragons, dragons, everywhere! My obsession with dragons never ceases to amaze me. After publishing three 1NS dragon stories, the forth and final one is now here!
Dragon’s Bond is set in 1952 San Francisco, and it’s the story of Shen Li and Lien Long who were the beginning founders of the Double Dragon’s Blood legacy.
Caught in the grips of tragedy, this parahuman couple and their torrid love affair brought about a scandalous conclusion neither thought they would survive! Years later, they will come face to face with their past. Will they get their happily ever after? You will have to read to find out…
Without giving too much away, I wanted to ask our readers, what is your favorite kind of HEA in the 1Night Stand series? “Happily for now,” is that good enough? Is a happily ever after too much to grasp in this series of 1Night Stands? What are some of your favorite 1NS endings?

***

Dragon’s Bond Blurb:
In 1952, it’s not proper for a woman to chase after a man, but Lien Long is no ordinary woman. Shattered by his abandonment after their single night of passion ends in tragedy, she travels from a life of sexual servitude in Shanghai to San Francisco to chase her career, her dreams, and her one true love. Armed with new knowledge of her dark lineage and at the encouragement of a colleague, she enlists the help of Madame Eve to arrange a 1 Night Stand, in hopes to find her way into the arms of her soul mate once more.
Cursed with an ancient legacy he knew nothing about, Shen Li flees to San Francisco after the devastating death of his twin brother. Tormented by the guilt and shame of his indulgence in lust and his longing he cannot diminish for his beloved, he accepts the advice of his mentor and boss, to contact the 1 Night Stand services. He seeks an escape of passion to release his sins of the past and move on with his life. What awaits Shen is eye-opening truth about the life he had forsaken. Will he find the night of fiery paradise he hopes for?

Excerpt:

Madame Evangeline,
Only once, have I tasted the sweetness of divine passion, and it cost me my soul and my brother’s life. That night will haunt me forever. Since devastation struck, by the fate and shame my selfish desire brought upon my family, I have rejected the love I pine for.
It is with a heavy heart I confess, my will wanes, but I can never have her again. My ache for my beloved grows with each day that passes. Although this request will never diminish my desire for her, it is my hope, to at least alleviate the torment of my lust that lingers, so that I may move forward and release my sins of the past.
I left China for my job to begin a new life here in San Francisco. Perhaps, if I indulge in the arms of another woman for a single night, I can at last move on. After great consideration of a close friend’s suggestion, I seek your help, to be matched for a 1Night Stand. My only request is for a woman with jade green eyes. It is the one trait of her eternal beauty I wish I could admire a final time.
   Kindest Regards,
   Shen Li

Creating a Series…

Book two in the House of Lord Series

When I first wrote The Duke and the Virgin it was after a long dry spell. Two years with only a book a year written. I thought it would be fun to place Madame Eve into Regency England. Hell, she seems to have been everywhere else--Ancient Rome, Las Vegas, Paranormal places, and even in outer space. The difference here was working around the structures of tight Regency period. But the idea flowed and became another of the 200+ 1Night Stand books. I never meant it to be anything but a single stand-alone 1NS….

BUT THEN….

While doing the Color Me Rad 5K with editor extraordinaire Valerie Mann (To me one of the top the reasons I sub to DecadentJ) started saying I needed to write more stories, make them into a series. At first I balked. This is a standalone book. Hell, I didn’t really add more people who could make it into a series. Val walked behind me, I believe in the hopes of not getting color-bombed, threw out ideas, and loudly whispered to one of our other team members, “She won’t use these.”

Dom, one of her cool friends & Valerie

This is what a bestselling author looks like

To be honest I did use one of the ideas, but her ideas spurred a dozen more. And while I lay in bed trying to sleep, it hit me. THE POKER GAME. The duke, Wolfe, won his date with 1Night Stand in a poker game. So there had to be others playing who heard about the date!!  Now I knew how to begin the series and The House of Lords was born.

The MARQUIS Lord Simon James Winston, Marquis of Breckinridge
The EARL Lord Andrew Masterson, Earl of Windenshire

The VISCOUNT Lord Jonathon Railey, Viscount of Aunton

Fun Facts About Jessica E. Subject’s 1Night Stand Characters

Hello everyone, I’m super excited to say that as of July 1st, I will have been published for three years. Yes, on May 1, 2011, I received my first contract. It was for Celestial Seduction, a 1Night Stand story I wrote for the new (at the time) line at Decadent Publishing. After that, I was addicted. I’ve wrote several more 1NS stories since then, as well as stories for other lines at Decadent. Anyway, I thought it might be interesting for you to catch a glimpse into the lives of the heroes and heroines from my first two 1Night Stand stories, Celestial Seduction and Beneath the Starry Sky.

Take it away, Carrie and Tamara!

Carrie: [with a tub of Ben & Jerry’s Magic Brownies ice cream on her lap] Jessica asked us to show up here today and wanted Tamara and I to tell you five facts about us, Frey and Josh that you wouldn’t know after reading Celestial Seduction and Beneath the Starry Sky.
Tamara: Yeah, your story was published first even though I had my 1 Night Stand almost a year earlier. But I’m not exactly sure I want everyone to know what happened between Josh and I.
Carrie: And you think it was easy for me to see my night in print? You’re the one who tells me every position you’ve had sex in.
Tamara: [shoving a spoonful of ice cream in Carrie’s mouth] I guess the first thing you should know is that Carrie and I met seven years ago at a medical conference.
Carrie: We were just beginning our careers back then.
Tamara: Anyway, after dinner one night, I saw Carrie sitting at a table all by her lonesome while everyone else mingled. She looked lonely and I felt sorry for her. I sat beside her, we began talking, and we’ve been best friends ever since.
Carrie: [teary-eyed] We’ve been through so much together.
Tamara: [squeezing Carrie’s hand] And we’re about to go through so much more together, too, but this time it’s all good. Now, let’s move on with the next fact.
Carrie: [wiping her tears away] Okay. I’m an only child and I’ve always wanted a big family. I thought that dream had been crushed until I met Frey.
Tamara: Care, I’m surprised you said that without crying.
Carrie: [looks away]
Tamara: Okay, on to the next fact. I came from a large family; the middle of five kids. I know there are larger families, but I’m glad my parents didn’t have any more. Things were hectic enough. Growing up, I swore I would never have kids, but after meeting Josh, I’m actually considering it.
Carrie: You are?
Tamara: Yes, now are you going to stop crying long enough to state the next fact or do you want to give me that card with Frey’s fact?
Carrie: I’ll say it. I’m sorry, I’m just so emotional lately. Anyway, Frey wanted everyone to know that Ginnunians don’t swim. There’s very little water on the planet, that they use it for drinking and growing food only. They developed some type of gel which they use to clean themselves instead of water.
Tamara: Really? Has he ever gone swimming here?
Carrie: [shaking her head] He’s stood in a pool but refuses to go under the water. Plus, the water messes with his image somehow.
Tamara: Oh. And on to the last fact. Josh didn’t want me to tell anyone, but he used to be an underwear model before he started acting.
Carrie: [almost choking on a mouthful of ice cream] You’re joking, right?
Tamara: [grinning] Nope. I’ve got pictures... And with that, we should get going. I promised Frey I’d have Carrie home in time for her afternoon nap. By the looks of it though, she may fall asleep in my car. Later!

Giveaway!!
Tell me one fact I should know about you for a chance to WIN an ebook of either Celestial Seduction or Beneath the Starry Sky. BE SURE TO LEAVE YOUR EMAIL IN THE COMMENT! Must be 18 or older to enter. Contest is international. Good luck!

By Jessica E. Subject

Erotic Sci-Fi Romance
ISBN: 978-1613330944

At the end of his obligated commitment to the Space Service, Frey Berger decides to stay on Earth to further experience human emotions rather than return to Ginnun where his intended has already mated with another. Looking for real love and someone to accept him for what he is, Frey enlists in Madame Evangeline’s popular dating service. Although he does not understand the concept of a one-night stand, he hopes to find his perfect mate.
Carrie Cooper’s husband divorced her for someone who could provide him with children, leaving her with little self-confidence and no desire to let a man hurt her again. Her best friend convinces her to join a dating service, claiming Carrie needs to get laid, while not winding up with a broken heart since her date requires no commitment after the night is over.
Although several misunderstandings nearly derail them before the date has even begun, Carrie and Frey end up becoming closer than they ever believed possible. Still, Frey will need to convince Carrie that her perfect mate isn’t human at all, and that one night can lead to a forever love.
