For months I have been battling with a bad case of
Writers Block though to be honest it was more of writer doldrums. Had the ideas but didn’t have the motivation
to write them down. It had been an emotional Fall, professionally full of ups
and downs and I think I was still recovering from that. I had stretched myself
very thin and was to be honest at my breaking point.
Then a friend called and said where do you want to
go, pick a place anywhere in Europe. Really? I though, sure, okay how about
Ireland? Well two months later, with my bags packed, my camera charged and ready, I was
off to the Emerald Island.
As far as vacation goes I didn’t do a lot of
resting, in fact I was up earlier then I would have been at home. And it was my
spring break from my real job so I would have been taking it easy. Instead I
was walking 15 miles or more a day. I was hoofing it over the city and country
side and I was loving every minute of it. For the first time in months, maybe
years, I was pretty much unplugged. With the exception of a quick blog I did
daily for my family and friend to catch up.
And I suddenly couldn’t wait to write again. Ideas started flowing like melting
spring stream.
So here is my advice to those authors suffering
abit of writers block/fatigue. WALK AWAY. You don’t have to do to the extreme
of Ireland like I did but I do recommend a few days of unplugged and complete
relaxation to recoup. Even if the relaxation is not sleeping. My Other advice
visit Ireland and the Giants Causeway. Visit this land full of wonderful
people, amazing storytellers and rich history. But I warn you, this place knows
how to make some potatoes.
Now to see if Madame Eve can work her magic on the Emerald isle in this story that is locked in my head. We shall see.

Sounds like a wonderful vacation, and very inspirational. :)
ReplyDeleteyou never know where you will find your next inspiration, and sometimes walking away is the best although hardest thing to do:)
ReplyDeleteSo when I pack it up and fly away, I'll just leave this post up on my computer screen as explanation for the fam. Enough said!
ReplyDelete@ Jessica it was very inspirational and got me back into remembering what I loved to do write romances. @Ann great Idea :)
ReplyDeleteGreat advice! Unplugging is a great way to relax & allow your muse to play so she can be recharged. I'm a little jealous you got to go to Ireland, though, for your unplugging.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed following your travels, Ireland is on my bucket list! And I can't wait to see your next story!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Ireland - and I live so close really. I'd love to see the Giant's causeway. You sound like you had a fantastic time and yes, walking away for while is a good idea. It gives your batteries time to recharge.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this. Very inspiring and enjoyed reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the hint.
ReplyDeleteSometimes a little downtime is good for the muse's soul! Great share, Dom. Tweeted. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post and wonderful advice. Dom, those pics are absolutely amazing. I have always wanted to see Ireland, and you have brought me a taste to make me want more. Glad you're back.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read the story Dom, awe-inspiring scenery, I can only imagine where you muse is leading you!
ReplyDeletehugs

I think it's wonderful how you decided to do something many of us dream of, but put off. Great post!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos xx Yes, there's nothing like time away to clear a creative block. And I'm so glad Madame Eve is going to have more Irish clients ;) My characters from the 1NS sub-series Irish Kisses are heading to Ireland for a certain event, maybe we could do a cross over LOL LOL
ReplyDeleteWonderful story, Dominique! That looks like "Blarney Castle" up there on the left:) I'm SO ready to go back and take hubby with me next time!
