Writing The Next Book

by Rebecca Royce

I had written One Night With A Wolf and I was very pleased with how it had turned out.  Truth is, I love writing in worlds not created by me. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I love writing in worlds I create too. World Building is one of my favorite things. But seeing if I can fit my story into someone else’s parameters, for some reason it’s a challenge I love to do.

When the idea came to do a follow up story, Rebirth, using the sister I had written into One Night With A Wolf, I jumped at the idea.

Who could she be and how could it be similar to One Night With A Wolf without being One Night With A Wolf again?

Well…werewolves would have to be out.  But it still needed to be Paranormal.  So, being me, I immediately thought of vampires.  And Gus was born.

My editor called Gus tragic and I love that description. I wanted him to be the kind of vampire I remember reading years ago. I used to call them the lamenting vampires.  You know the kind.  Oh woe is me, how can I go
through the night without you by my side, my love?  I haven’t seen a good, hot lamenter in a long time.

What kind of old-fashioned heroes did you like when you first read romance? Who did you read? What do you miss?

  1. Hi Rebecca,
i love the cover,it's beautiful and the book sounds wonderful.

i have to agree with you about the lovelorn vampires from the past in romance. there was just something so great and yet so "would you just stop" about them. :D

The type of hero i liked was a mixture of the Alpha/Beta personalities. he knew how to dominate and kick butt while at the same time he was gentle and loving. i don't know if that makes sense to anyone but me. i hope it does.

  2. Hi,
I love the cover of One Night With A Wolf. I love paranormals but I have to say my first romance favorites were usually historicals where the man was misunderstood. You know the scoundrel, playboy who was a disgrace but was really just damaged and needed to be loved.
In my defense I was really young and believed that people could change super drastically. (Until I married my first husband and actually tried to do it) LOL
Now I just love my men strong and alpha but protective and loving under all that muscle.

  3. I absolutely love the "knight in shining armor", but I like them to have a soft side when they are alone with the woman they love.

Looking forward to reading this story!

  4. I always love a gentle giant. The type who brings down retribution on the bad guys but treats his lady and others with kid gloves, then loses control in the throes of passion. I started with my mother's Mills & Boon, left Romance to graduate to Scifi and Fantasy, only to be enthralled by Paranormal Romance. For me there's nothing to miss...it's all gains! The more I find, the more I read. This will be a keeper. Caroline

  5. I like a heroine that isn't so woo is me but is somewhat flawed. I also like a hero that will admit to his insecurities and his wrong doings. But first and foremost, he needs to be 110% committed to do anything for his lady.

  6. Great cover.I always liked the "Knight in shining armor." The hero who would always come to the rescue and save the day. He would do anything to make you feel safe, loved, wanted, and happy. He also needs to be able to admit he can be wrong and doesn't always know the right answer.
