Pizza For Two = Romance

In the book Eagle Dance, the main characters bond over pizza. There is love at first sight, so why not have love over pizza?

Dyami planned to pull out all his charms and romance this gal. Sexy as hell, with a wit to match his, she also held an appreciation for a well-made pizza.

A couple we know looked for something they could do together that would add a little spice to their marriage. They signed up for a pizza cooking class. Once they got into the kneading and tossing the dough, stress slipped away and was replaced with light hearted humor. The new activity became the charm they needed.

We have pizza night as a family. Where is the romance in that? Hubby pours a glass of wine for he and I while I prepare the dough. We often make a hard toast with toppings to snack on with our wine while the pizza cooks. After we are caught kissing a few times, the boys complain of how gross we are and exit to the living room.

Looking for a cheap date night for you and your honey? Grab a bottle of wine and a takeout pizza then head to a local park with a blanket. If the weather is yucky, do what Dyami and Amanda did in Eagle Dance. They relaxed in front of a cozy fire in the fireplace to enjoy their wine and pizza. But of course they had chocolate and caramel syrup for dessert. You’ll have to read the book to find out if they put it on ice cream or each other.

Take A Time Out – Recharge Romance

During busy summer months, hubby and I capture every little bit of romance we can and sometimes it is as simple as enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning at the bonfire pit in our own backyard. While the boys are sleeping, we enjoy the peace and serenity nature offers.

On one such morning, a handsome crow flew in for a visit. It turned out to be our good friend, Seth Crowe. Seth is a crow shifter as well as a Shawnee shaman. He joined us for a cup of java and to catch up. He’s been working with several Native American shifters who are in the service. He said it’s important for them to maintain a balance between their spirit animal and the land. They need to maintain harmony within their souls. True beauty and peace is often overlooked in our crazy world.

I would say it is true for not only for warriors but all of us to have a “time out” in the outdoors. In the bustle of everyday life – job, kids, school, sports, housework, etc we often for get to touch base with our roots. What better way to reconnect with your honey than to take a stroll in a park or sit on a blanket to gaze at the stars! Seth said that he and Lucy will climb out of a window onto the roof of his cabin with a bottle of wine to watch meteorite showers.

Hubby and I have been known to sneak out of the house at midnight and wander down the road, holding hands and listening to the symphony played by the night critters. The world slows down long enough for us to catch our breath and cleanse our souls.

Recharge the romance. Take a minute this summer with your honey to enjoy a few moments alone in nature. It can be anything from admiring your garden with each other or sitting on your porch in candlelight. If you’re brave try something crazy such as skinny dipping at the lake (just make sure you’re on your own property and don’t get caught!)

This is how to “Romance the Capital”…

What happens when you put a huge group of introverted authors, who are pretending to be extroverted, into a hotel for 48 hours?   Pure Magic

Armed with a car load of swag, books, and knitting, my husband and I headed up to Ottawa last Thursday. What happened over the next two days was the best conference I’ve ever been to.

Very few times in my life have I been somewhere that vibrated as acutely with positive energy. Everyone was smiling and laughing. It doesn’t matter if you’re an author or a reader, everyone has their favourite authors and the opportunity to “fangirl” all over them is overwhelming.

I was able to meet so many people that I’ve traded messages and emails with and this was our first chance to talk face to face. I’ve known Deb Cooke online for years but never had a chance to meet her. And when I did she gave me and Anne Lange a tiara to wear! LOL I was helping her with her event. Bouncing around in a tiara handing out truffles is the best way to start a Saturday J

 

I spoke on my very first conference panel with Elizabeth Lister and Nathan Burgoine about LGBT romances.  That was fun for us all, and I think I giggled my way through most of it. We kept it casual and more like an intimate chat amongst friends. The questions never stopped and all three of us had similar points of view but we all come at this genre from different perspectives. It inspired me to push my writing boundaries as well and I really hope we can do it again next year.

And then came Saturday afternoon, which started with “Speed Date an Author”.  Ever want to meet and learn about 25 authors in 50 minutes? This is how you do it. It was loud and crazy but so much fun! After a short break where my best friends shoved hummus and pitas into me, we headed into the Book Signing.  I wish I could remember everyone I spoke to but honestly at this point it all becomes a blur in my memory. 

My one regret is I didn’t get a picture with Kate Richards and Valerie Mann. I was really bummed about that. But, there is always next year right?!

My kitting wasn’t touched and my laptop stayed closed.  Although, my phone was glued to my hand so I could tweet and Instagram all weekend. We spent the 5 hour drive home talking about plans for next year and the possibility of going to the Philly Author Fest in November J RTC 2016 is already looking like it’s going to be bigger and better than this year and I can’t wait!

Today I’m back to normal. Stretchy pants and a sweater with my lap top. My inspiration well is filled to overflowing and I keep bouncing between manuscripts! Thanks to my wonderful husband I have tons of pictures from the weekend. If you check out my facebook page I have almost all of them up now. For now I have to get to work and start putting the voices down on page before they get any louder and decide to start waking me up in the night. LOL

Kayleigh Malcom is a firm believer that all love is beautiful and everyone deserves a Happily Ever After....well except for those involved with cancelling Firefly. She's still holding a grudge over that one.

I Love a Man in Uniform

  

There’s something very iconic about the RCMP uniform. The bright red surge and unique flat brimmed beige hat, they are about as Canadian as you can get.  In their everyday “blues” they look like most police officers, but it’s their formal uniforms that are the most recognizable.

I’ve always blamed my family for my obsession with uniforms, especially those of the “Mounties”.

   I was about eight when my uncle joined the Force. At 6’4” he towered over me in that bright red uniform and I knew he could protect me from anything. Superheros had nothing over the monster crushing strength of my Uncle Steve. J 

   (My cousin was a Mountie and my other two Uncles were Navy and I have a soft spot for them too, but that’s a story for another post.)

   When I heard of the special 1NS call for books set at the Romancing the Capital convention in Ottawa my first thought was of these brave officers who protect our country. It wasn’t a far stretch from there to creating a special RCMP taskforce empowered with keeping the peace within a paranormal community. Paranormal/Research/Intelligence/Discipline and Education or PRIDE for short.  (Really nothing is a far stretch from the paranormal side of my brain. I see magic everywhere. lol)

   Claiming His Cub is my first full M/M story, and won’t be my last. (lol) I love the way Dary and Rhoo naturally started flirting in my head. It’s not often that characters walk into my thoughts fully formed and flirty. Usually I have to entice them with chocolate and wine, but these two were steaming up my gray matter the moment I decided to write their story.

I’m looking forward to exploring the PRIDE detachment and introducing you to some of Dary’s co-workers.

   "Do you have your ID with you?” the bartender asked.
   Dary smirked when Rhoo sighed dramatically while passing over his driver’s license. “I think I’m going to have to carry my ID until I’m fifty.”
   The man behind the bar winked at him when he returned the card. “You’ll be the envy of everyone you know with a baby face like yours.”
   The hair on Dary’s nape bristled, and he fought the urge to growl at the man when he went to get their beers. It might be some harmless flirting, but he didn’t need another man cutting in on his date. His bear rubbed aggressively against his consciousness, wanting to swipe his claws at what he viewed as a poacher.
   “Are you hungry?” Dary asked. “We can get a table or eat here at the bar.” Sitting at a table would get them away from their overly flirtatious bartender.
   “I’m good either way, but this is nice sitting here with you. It’s a bit more casual than if we were at a table.”
   Rhoo’s hands moved as he spoke, drawing Dary’s attention to his long, delicate fingers. Driven by a need he didn’t want to contemplate, he caught one and turned it over, stroking his thumb along the edge of his palm, feeling the thickened skin on the side. “For a man who says he sits around in his job, you have the calluses of a warrior.”
   Color raced from Rhoo’s neck to his cheeks. “I said I have a lot of downtime in my job, not that I sit on my ass.” In a smooth, quickly executed move that spoke of hours of practice, Rhoo slid his hand from Dary’s grasp to clasp his wrist. He angled Dary’s hand so it was palm up. “You’re one to talk.” Rhoo rubbed his thumb over the thick ridge on his trigger finger. “You work with firearms.” His caressed the sensitive skin of Dary’s palm to his inner wrist, brushing the pulse point with his thumb. “Are you made of thick muscle everywhere?”
