GOT CABIN FEVER?

By Deanna Wadsworth

Yeah, it's the middle of February and if you’re near the Midwest there’s no way you DON’T have cabin fever!
I don't care if you leave the house every day for work, you still have to deal with other drivers, kids, and people in general. And they’re all driving you crazy, right? I can only speak honestly on this subject because my coworkers don't know my pen name, but I have been about to donkey punch all of them! LOL.
Heck, I've got cabin fever so bad I've been playing online wargames....and I’ve actually spent money on them #pathetic.
Some of us are lucky enough to escape to the Caribbean like Travis and John in my first 1NS book BEAR IT ALL, or Martin and Garret in ACCIDENTALLY BEAUTIFUL. Even Jason and Blake from THE BEST EVER got to go to Vegas! But unless you can get a silver bird to fly you away, reading about such tropical getaways will only get you so far.
For me, amongst all the dreams that I could be a unicorn so I could stab idiots in the head with my horn and all the online video gaming, something else is happening this cabin fever season.

I’ve been writing :-)
I have been writing like a fiend!
I’ve learned over the past five years of my professional writing career that October through December I don't get any writing done. But come January first, I become a writing machine! I'm talking 60,000 beautiful words so far and even the start of a novella.
So cabin fever might make us go crazy, but being forced to stay at home does have its perks. Like I don’t have to make up excuses about why I don’t want to leave my house because I’m in the middle of a sex scene.
But then again, I'm also reading Moby Dick for the hell of it, so maybe I’ve already gone crazy and I just don’t know it yet.

The Best Ever...

The Best Ever available HERE
By Deanna Wadsworth
I am so excited to have my latest 1Night Stand book come out this summer!!

I have had a lot of fun with this awesome series. My first two in the series, Bear it All and Accidentally Beautiful are interconnected with different characters and THE BEST EVER is no different. Not only is there a sneak peak of what happens to Martin and Garret from Accidentally Beautiful in my new book, but there is also a cameo of Wendy Burke’s hero and heroine, Ian and Bryn, from another 1Night Stand book called Haste Ye Back.

Wendy and I came up with the idea of sharing characters and decided to write six books interweaving characters. She rights m/f romance and I write m/m but we have found a fun way to play on the idea of six degrees of separation. In our six 1Night Stand books, readers can find out what happens to the happy couples after their 1Night Stand.

The proper reading order is:

Bear it All by Deanna Wadsworth
The One He Chose by Wendy Burke
Accidentally Beautiful by Deanna Wadsworth
Haste Ye Back by Wendy Burke
The Best Ever by Deanna Wadsworth
For Me by Wendy Burke...it’s coming soon!!

THE BEST EVER
by DEANNA WADSWORTH

BLURB: Jason Lewis is a self-proclaimed nerdy guy who hates his red hair. Bullied most of his life, at 22 social situations still make him awkward. On a trip to the World Video Game Expo in Las Vegas, he decides to enlist the help of Madame Eve in his failed romantic endeavors. While at the con, Jason runs into sexy, professional baseball pitcher Blake Huntington, the jock he tutored in high school. Blake invites him to a party but after hanging out with his high school crush all night, Jason regrets booking a 1NS "encounter" later that night. What Jason doesn't know, is that Madame Eve has already arraigned the best night ever

EXCERPT:
From the corner of his eye, Jason noted the bed had been turned down and a strip of condoms lay on the nightstand with a bottle of lube.
Suddenly, the illicit nature of the whole evening hit him. Sweat broke out on his skin. Shit, why had he bothered to shower? He took a quick whiff of his pits. Thank God, his deodorant was still on the job.
Where was this guy? What if he turned out to be old? Who hired this kinda service anyway?
Suck it up! You can do this. He may have been a gangly nerd in high school but he’d taken up karate, per Blake’s suggestion—dammit! Stop thinking about professional baseball players you’ll never stand a chance with! This is about going after what YOU want!
The bathroom door opened and Jason smoothed his shirtfront, trying to be presentable.
A man walked out, towel drying his hair.
Jason sucked in a sharp breath, and his dick stood up and took notice of the big, athletic body, fresh from the shower. Tanned and muscular. Water streaked furrows into his perfect layer of chest hair. A skimpy towel hung from narrow hips, a solid thigh peeking out from the side, but his face remained hidden.
   #holycrap #hotness
“Sorry, I kept you waiting,” the man said, slow and seductive. “I figured why waste time getting dressed.”
Then he dropped both towels in a practiced maneuver, standing before Jason in all his naked glory. Jason’s gaze traveled from his feet, up those long legs, past a thick cock and over a perfectly chiseled abdomen.
When their eyes met, the man’s sly grin faded in an instant. He gasped, hazel eyes wide.
Jason let out a gasp of his own. “Blake!”

What's Next?

by Wendy Burke

What's next? Here I am again, wondering 'what's next?' when it comes to writing.

Despite having a minimum of four dozen in-various-stages-of-completeness in my laptop, I still ask myself, 'What IS next?'

When I'm severely stuck, I usually email (read that whine to) my WBFF (that would be 'writing BFF') and beta reader, fellow Decadent Publishing writer, Deanna Wadsworth for a nudge. She's been flogging me for a good two years to finish something she likes to call 'Second Chance Dad,' but I'm thinking that title is already taken by some other author/publishing house and it's a bit too--the word escapes me--to use for this story. It has the title I gave it while watching Lake Michigan return again and again to the sugar-sand beaches of my hometown, Sheboygan, Wisconsin--'Wind Off the Lake.'

II've long wanted to use my hometown as more than just a passing setting (as in Wise Men Say), and in 'Wind Off the Lake' it works. Sheboygan is a great place to 'go home to,' and I've done that a lot in the past three years, helping my brother through a terrible illness. It never failed that every time I 'went home,' I came back with another story.

Nice guy in high school!

Sheboygan is a lovely, pleasant, simple town. Sure it's matured since my growing-up years of the 60s and 70s--it has its own problems with gangs and drugs. It pains me to see photos in the local paper of Kevlar-vested cops (good lookin' ones at that!) raiding a home near my old neighborhood. It saddens me my hometown needs a SWAT team. And, then there was the on-going 'scandal' with a former Mayor--yep, turned out he was a year behind me in high school. (Trust me, there's another work of fiction based, partially, on him as well!)

So, maybe 'Wind Off the Lake' is my next project--after all, it is 60-some-percent complete. I'd be happy and proud to show off my hometown through a little fictitious work, and maybe put that little burg on the map for something more than Mayor Bob discussing his sister-in-law's possible proclivities on a cell phone cam!

When not playing with the people in her head, Wendy has a full time job behind the scenes in television, a part time job in radio and an even 'parter' time job trying to keep her house clean. She lives with her  cute chef husband and two fuzzy felines in the Great Lakes region of the Mid-West. For Me, Wendy's latest 1NightStand, and last in the series of six written with Deanna Wadsworth with overlapping characters, will be released in fall.

The Best Ever

By Deanna Wadsworth
This past weekend I had an exciting Saturday. My local chapter of RWA, the Maumee Valley Romance Writers had their fourth annual Spring Book Lover’s Event at our local library here in Toledo, Ohio.

As the MC of the event, I had a great time introducing all of my local author friends as they did readings from their latest books—five of which have just sold their first book within the last six months—and moderating two Q&A Author panels.

The funny thing about public events like this is that playing MC does not make me nervous. Even promoting our event on local news stations didn’t make me nervous.https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=2860442088183
But there is something different when it comes to talking about myself!
Two weeks ago I had the honor of being the subject of an article about straight women who write gay romance on the Toledo City Paper. http://www.toledocitypaper.com/March-Issue-1-2013/Love-lust-and-romance/

Now THAT interview made me nervous!

As did reading an excerpt from my latest 1Night Stand book THE BEST EVER at our event this Saturday.

I don’t know why, but I can MC events until the cows come home but when it comes to taking about myself, I get all nervous. It’s silly, but that’s just how it is. Or maybe I’m just waaay more modest than people probably think I am. I hate being the center of attention. I DO like being at the center of the action, I just get nervous when the spotlight is on me.

LOL

Weird, I know, but it is what it is.

But what’s kinda cool, is that when it’s all done, and you get control of your shaky voice, sharing your book with others can be pretty cool......or like the title of my next 1Night Stand book......THE BEST EVER!

This is the excerpt I read on Saturday from my upcoming 1Night Stand story THE BEST EVER. If you enjoyed my previous two 1Night Stand books, BEAR IT ALL and ACCIDENTALLY BEAUTIFUL, you will love the latest story. My writer BFF Wendy Burke, another 1Night Stand writer, shares some of my characters with me in her 1NS books. If you enjoyed her book HASTE YE BACK, you get to find out what happened with her hero and heroine, Bryn and Ian, in my book THE BEST EVER.

Enjoy!

BLURB:
Nerdy, red-haired Jason Lewis has been bullied most of his life and at 22 social situations still make him awkward. On a trip to the World Video Game Expo in Las Vegas, Jason decides to enlist the help of Madame Eve in his failed romantic endeavors. While at the con, Jason runs into sexy, professional baseball pitcher Blake Huntington, the guy he tutored in high school. Blake invites Jason to a party and after hanging out with his high school crush, Jason begins to regret booking his 1NS "encounter" later that night. But what Jason doesn't know, is Madame Eve has planned the best night ever.

EXCERPT:
Greeting Jason with a smile, Abby said, “You got everything?”
“Yup.”
“Toothpaste?Toothbrush?Extra underwear?Socks?Your inhaler?Allergy medication?”
“Yes, Abigail.”
Ignoring the full name, his sister arched her brows. “Condoms?”
“Jeez, Abby, just drive.” He pointed irritably to the exit of the cul-de-sac.
“Suit yourself. But I bet there’s some cute video game playing guy waiting to hook up with you in Vegas.”
Jason rolled his eyes, face heating up as if somehow she knew. “Whatever. I’m going to Vegas to check out the new games and have some fun. Not hook up.”
“Having fun and hooking up are not necessarily two different things. All you do is play online and go to karate.”
“Not discussing this,” he announced with a wave of his hand. “Hashtag: mind your own business.”
Jason had planned this trip to the World Video Game Expo as a reward for completing the Ross School of Business’ grueling Masters of Accounting program at the University of Michigan in June. Three days of events showcasing all the latest in gaming technology, championship tournaments, a chance to get tips from the top gamers, and meet a few of his online gaming buddies?
#guaranteedepic
Yet he could not shake the nervous feeling in his gut.
“Bryn’s excited about Ian’s visit,” Jason said, searching for a way to change the subject and get his mind off the inevitable. “I had to peel her off the walls.”
“Yeah, we’re going to Detroit this weekend. Ian wants to visit a friend who runs a sports bar.”
“Oh, I’m sorry I’m gonna miss that. That’s Ian’s gay friend Martin, from Scotland.” Jason had heard every detail about Ian from Bryn. Some of which he didn’t need to hear, and Ian might be mortified Jason knew.
Abby shrugged. “I don’t know if he’s gay or not. It’s just some bar.”
#lovemysister
Not a judgmental bone in her body, Abby saw no differences in people, gay or straight, black or white. People were people. Work was work. Food fed the body. She was by far the most logical person he’d ever met. Always a great source of honest advice and the one person he could rely on no matter what, Abby was his rock. When he’d told her he was gay, she’d asked, “Oh, how did you figure that out?”
He had retorted in a sarcastic teenager way, “How’d you figure out you were straight?”
She’d thought about it for a moment—filing it away like a research factoid for later—then said, “Hmmm, good question.”
And that had been that.
He’d always sought her advice, and never did he need it as much as today. But he had to be coy about it. He took a deep breath, asking the leading question he’d prepared, “Do you know how they met?”
Abby screwed up her face in confusion. “Who?The gay guy and Bryn’s boyfriend?”
#payattention
He tried not to get annoyed. “No. Bryn and Ian.”
Brows raised, she shook her head. “No idea.”
“Through a service called 1Night Stand. Bryn wanted some casual sex so she booked an encounter—that’s what the place calls it—at a castle. Ian was her date.”
“I didn’t know.”
“Kinda crazy, right? Like hiring a hooker,” he prompted.
Abby tipped her head to the side—her “Analyzing Look” Jason called it. “No, it’s not like a hooker. Unless Ian is a male prostitute. He isn’t is he?”
“No.”
“Then it’s more like two consenting adults wanting to cut through all the bullshit and games. Sounds very efficient.”
Jason resisted an eye roll. Such an Abby answer. “You don’t think it’s crazy?”
“Not at all. Why? Do you?”
“No,” he said quickly. “Like you said, it’s just cutting out all the bullshit and games.”
Games that didn’t involve a controller or hi-def graphics were not Jason’s thing. Even Dating for Dummies had not helped his endeavors. So he’d brought in the big guns. The professionals.
He slanted a glance at his older sister, keeping his voice level. “Would you ever hire a service for sex?”
“Sure,” Abby mused. “Why not?Might be interesting.”
Her calm reply went through him like he’d taken a big puff on his inhaler. The tension in his chest eased.
Abby glanced at him out of the corner of her eye. The “Mom Look” this time. “Why are you asking?”
“Oh, no reason,” he answered a little too quickly…other than I booked my own encounter via Madame Eve and her 1Night Stand agency.

Life’s Beautiful Accidents

by Deanna Wadsworth

Sometimes stories come to us when we are least expecting them. Sort of like life, love, the flu andmaybe even the lottery, LOL

My latest 1Night Stand story, ACCIDENTALLY BEAUTIFUL was one of those nicer accidents. My BWFF—best writer friend forever—and pretty much a BFF as well, Wendy Burke, and I were sitting around one day chatting about characters, books and all that other crazy hoopla writers talk about when we get together. I’d been playing with writing a 1NS story—a m/m—and Wendy was thinking of writing a m/f for 1NS.

Well, in amidst her telling me the opening line of a book she had no idea where to go with—“I wanna get drunk, get fucked and not give a damn”—and me saying I wanted to write a May/December (older and younger man) we decided to make our main characters brother and sister. Why the heck not?

And so BEAR IT ALL and THE ONE HE CHOSE were born.

As I was reading TOHC in its rough draft, I fell in love with Martin, the concierge from Wendy’s book. So I asked Wendy, “Can I have him for a story?” She was like, “Sure.”
And so ACCIDENTALLY BEAUTIFUL began.

Wendy had this great Scottish tale she’d never finished called HAST YE BACK and I suggested—brow-beating just sounds so ugly—that she take the good parts and work it into a 1NS. We decided her hero Ian and Martin must have been high school friends.

And so the fourth book in our little plan, HASTE YE BACK came to life.
Was all this an accident? Fate? Divine intervention?

Who knows.

All I do know is that sometimes the most beautiful things in our life happen to us by accident. Chance meetings, strange friendships, wonderful events.

It reminds of the DOCTOR WHO episode “Turn Left” where one of the Doctor’s companions,Donna, made the seemingly innocent decision to turn a different direction at an intersection. Her whole life changed because of that one decision as well as the fate of the world.

Now I don’t think that the end of the universe via a Dalekinvasion will happen because I turned right instead of left, but when I sit back and think about how I met the people I love the most, it surprises me how easily one tiny decision might have made me miss out on having them in my life.

What if my boss hadn’t changed my work schedule? Would I have met and fallen in love with my husband?

What if I hadn’t just given a friend a manicure, would my sista-from-a-different-mutha seen her nails and asked for my business card?

If I hadn’t opened my beauty salon, would fate have put me in line with some of my most cherished friends?

What if I had bailed on that graduation party, would I have missed out on one of the best friends I’ve ever had?

What if … if… if…if!!!

Sometimes we shouldn’t question the Cosmos, rather, just be grateful we DID turn left, the universe DIDN’T end and our life became richer than we ever thought possible.
My latest story ACCIDENTALLY BEAUTIFUL embraces that belief and flirts with the idea that perhaps none of these beautiful things are an accident.

Is it God, the Devil, Fate, a Time Lord, Coincidence?

Maybe it’s just Madame Eve…..

ACCIDENTALLY BEAUTIFUL
A 1Night Stand Story

Martin Baird is perfectly content in his safe, predictable job as head concierge for Castillo Resorts, but when a handsome stranger whisks him away for a night of tropical escapades—first visiting an isolated gay bar then to a secluded beach where erotic delights await—Martin’s world is thrown upside down. He’s never met a man like Garret Fisher, but it seems he has been waiting for a night like this all his life.
Could something truly beautiful come out of this accidental meeting? Or was it really not an accident at all?

EXCERPT:
Martin’s attention once again centered on the man behind the bar. A dark haired man with a dominant glint in his sexy, green eyes Martin couldn’t help but be affected by. Heart racing, an unexplained veneration overcame him. Never before had someone bewitched him so effortlessly, rousing his blood with a single look. And they had plans for the evening? He should ask what they were, but he assumed Garret would tell him—eventually.
Even if he didn’t, Martin would go.
I’ve lost my bleeding mind.
Perhaps there was an ancient fairy knoll in Grand Turk, like the ones Da wove tales about, where babies were swapped for changelings and the spirits of the Fae bent people to their will. Surely a mystical influence reigned, leading Martin to follow this Garret on a mysterious journey.
Bloody hell, I almost called him “sir” and we haven’t even been properly introduced!
On cue, Garret extended a hand and Martin took it. That hand wrapped around his, similar in size, but worn and rough. Electric sensations ran through his blood at the lightly calloused fingers. This man did not sit around being idle.
“Garrett Fischer.”
“Martin Baird.”
“Nice to meet you, Marty.”
He should correct him—he hated being called Marty—but Garret had not let go, his playful gaze rendering him unable to assert himself. He swallowed hard, envisioning those palms running over his body with deep appreciation, stroking his budding erection, caressing his ass, parting him…spanking him?
Shite!
He dropped Garret’s hand at once, cheeks reddening.
Grinning, Garret returned to making the drink, his cocky demeanor a solid indicator he knew where Martin’s thoughts had wandered.
Damn Jagger for putting those ideas into his head—and awakening ones he’d not entertained in a long time.
Then again, maybe Garret Fischer held all the blame.
When Garret presented the cocktail—an illicit-looking, frothy, white concoction which again had Martin’s mind going to places it shouldn’t—he placed both arms wide on the bar, waiting for a reaction.
“Slainte.” Martin raised the drink to his lips, and the creamy, sweet beverage went down smooth. The alcohol warmed his blood but the intense way Garret studied him brought him to a full boil.
“Well?”
He placed the glass down, hand shaking. “Quite good. Not too sweet, either.”
“Glad you like it, Marty.” Garret leaned forward. “Here. You have something….”
Before Martin saw it coming, a masculine thumb brushed across his lower lip.
A visceral reaction shot molten fire through his center and he gasped. When Garret slipped that thumb between supple lips to suck away any residue of alcohol, Martin swore his cock grew two inches.
Garret pulled his thumb out of his mouth ever so slowly, purposefully. His green eyes, full of wicked promise behind those glasses, never left Martin’s. “Delicious.”
Throat dry, he wanted to ask if Garret liked how he tasted, wanted to taste more. But the notion of a different sort of whiteness dribbling down Martin’s chin, and Garret licking it clean, made him bloody incoherent.
“We’ll meet at the main entrance at eight.” Garret’s casual tone brooked no disobedience.
He nodded at once. “Um…right. Okay.”

LIONS AND TWINKS AND BEARS, OH MY!!!

Well there really aren't any lions in my new story, but it just sounded funnier that way, don't ya think?

Today I am talking about my new book BEAR IT ALL which is first story in Decadent Publishing's 1Night Stand Series. And it is being released TODAY!!!!

Yeah!!!

Travis hired the 1 Night Stand agency because he wanted a hot encounter with his dream man...a sexy older, hairy man and John looks custom made to order.

John, after losing his partner three years ago, is looking to learn how to accept another man into his bead again, to learn to live again. He thinks a one night stand in the Caribbean is the answer. But when John sees the young, thin and much smaller Travis he thinks the agency sent the wrong man.

Will Travis get his bear after all?
Will John open his heart to the unexpected?

Funny thing, when I first got my lovely cover from Fiona Jayde I was thrilled to no end how she nailed the differences in age and body type in my two heroes. But a Facebook friend asked me if I had intended the title to be BARE IT ALL not BEAR IT ALL because 'bear' means 'endure' and 'bare' means exposed.

I had to laugh when I messaged her back letting her know that a 'bear' was the common term for an older hairy gay man, like the man on the cover and that it was not a misspelled word at all.

She sent back, "Oh! I guess you learn something new every day!"

I wonder if she knows what a twink is….

If you would like a little something new, stop by Decadent Publishing and grab a copy of BEAR IT ALL.

Here is an excerpt to wet your appetite:

Damn, Madame Eve knew how to deliver.

Unable to believe his luck, Travis Hunter half wondered if the woman had somehow snooped in his private spank-bank of fantasies to create the man just for him.

John Godfrey—well, that was the name he’d given 1NightStand. Travis still couldn’t be sure if others had been as dumb as himself and actually given their real names to the service. Regardless, the name suited him. Simple and understated.

Ironically, everything John was not.

His date—he couldn’t bear to think of him as only a hook-up—arrived on the pool deck moments after Travis ordered his second mojito. The man’s unbound, sandy blond hair fell almost halfway down his back, just begging for Travis to run his fingers through it. Even as all the tanned beach studs frolicked with their bikini-clad girlfriends and kids splashed about, John still managed to turn heads. Then again, not every day did someone tower over the crowd with six-foot-five inches of ripped, hair-covered muscles.

Travis swallowed back the drool when John gripped the back collar of his T-shirt with one hand and pulled it off before heading for the shallow end of the pool.

“Hey, get a load of the Grizzly Adams,” a girl nearby whispered. “Ever heard of a back wax?”

Travis shot the two girls a look as they fell into fits of hysterical giggles. He curled his lip in disgust, suppressing the urge to snarl at them. Bimbos. What the hell did they know about real men? Real men knew how to fix things. They drank beer and ate meat and potatoes—not salads and tofu. Big, masculine men could hold a guy up and fuck him against a wall so effortlessly he didn’t have to worry about being dropped.

And most of all: Real men had hair.

Lots and lots of delicious body hair.
