How Did This Dragon Mania all start?

It all started with two seductive twins, Tatsu and Yong Li, my dragons. Along came Gwen Trembley, their fiery love interest in Double Dragon Seduction. Madame Eve speaks...

Madame is rather shy, but she gave this interview awhile back and we thought we'd pull it out of the archives for the 200th 1NS party!

So my dears, I’ve heard rumors that many of you want to know more about the mysterious Madame Eve.  I can’t reveal too much about myself or the mystery would be no more, n’est-ce pas? But I will tell you as much as you need to know for now…

I am from the Alsace region of France. 

I do not live in France now. I will not tell you where I live.

My father was a vintner. He produced the most delicious Riesling.

I believe love and wine are essential to our happiness. Beer adds a wonderful element as well.

I am not a woman who is afraid to tell people my age. However, I also don’t believe it’s anyone’s business. I will tell you that I am quite old, but have no intention of passing until my job here is complete. 

I have been in love once. That was enough. It will last me a lifetime.

A knight in shining armor? A famous ball player?  Mr. Tall, Dark and Kinky? Someone to spank your bottom? Or just someone who will understand your craving for sushi?

Having written a 1Night Stand story (Almost Perfect), and read countless others, I’ve been wondering what I would do if Madame Eve actually existed and I could call on her 1Night Stand service to fulfill a one night fantasy.

Of course, since Madame Eve is something of a matchmaker, I’d have to not have my husband in tow, but if I had no husband, what scenario would I ask for?

Here are my top five 1Night Stand scenarios:

1. A time-travel adventure, back to Regency London for a ton ball and a night with a duke that leads to more than just a dance.  Hmmm, that doesn’t sound half bad. 

2.  A cougar wish, with a sexy young (maybe 25?) year old to teach me a new trick or two.

3.  One night of being pampered by a billionaire in his luxury mansion. (I could get used to being taken care of.)

4.  A cowboy to teach me to ride under the big skies of Montana, then a night under the stars out on the trail by the firelight.  As long as no rustlers come by, I’ll be just fine.

5.  And a night with a pirate--preferably Johnny Depp’s pirate twin--to shiver me timbers, just like Pam’s 1 Night Stand in Almost Perfect before Roger shanghaied it.

She tensed, sucked in air, and her arms rose as though to push him away. But the silky feel of his lips on hers, firm as they pressed again and again, his tongue brushing against the seam, beguiled her. The Roger she remembered never kissed like this. She opened her mouth to tell him so, which allowed his tongue to slip through. The taste of champagne and a little salty tang from the seafood created an unexpectedly erotic flavor. So when her hands made contact with his shoulders, they didn’t push away, but urged him closer. His exploration stopped, he released her face and drew back.

“Well.” He sounded breathy, as though he’d just run a race. “Happy Birthday.”

“Wha…what the hell was that?” Her voice was low like his, her breathing as erratic.

“Just a kiss.” He grabbed his champagne and downed it.

“You never kissed me like that when we were married.” If he had, would they even be there?

“I guess I’ve learned a few things in the time we’ve been apart. And how much could you have expected anyway? We were both virgins when we met.”

She winced. “Don’t remind me! The techno-geek and the movie queen. Positively the worst case of dual deflowering in history. Talk about the blind leading the blind.”

“Well, I’m not blind anymore.” He set his glass on the table. “In fact, I’ve seen some extraordinary things….” His hand cupped her head again and she sat mesmerized as he drew her near. This time his tongue licked the outer rim of her ear, sending strings of chills along her arms. “You used to like this, I remember.”

“Roger.…” She needed to get out of there—because she wanted to stay so badly.

The 1Night Stand service is brilliant.  They manage to find you the love you never realized you looked for within the parameters of a fantasy.  You ask for a knight in shining armor but with a heart of gold, Madame Eve delivers. You ask for a hunky Marine who lives a life devoted to duty and respect.  You get it.  You ask for your wildest dreams and somehow, magically, Madame Eve not only delivers, she manages to make your dreams into a reality better than you could have imagined.

Although I would love to hire someone like this, you have to be a little afraid of the idea, too.  What if your perfect match isn’t what you thought you wanted but rather what you need?

I’m not sure.  But I would love to test those boundaries.   Just to see if I could accept what I wanted if I found it.

Blind Need

In a previous post on my blog about the writing of Blind Need, I talked about some of the research I did to get into the role of my heroine, Xavieria, who happens to be blind. About how I wandered around my house in a blindfold and had my son guiding me down steps. But Xaviera isn’t the only character in my book I had to do research on. I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about the hero, Ignatius, too. Nate as he insists on being called, is a smoke jumper. In other words, he jumps out of perfectly good planes to put out forest fires and the occasional canyon fire.

When I was going the research for his character, I wanted a man who had a heroic job that possibly had been injured on the job saving someone but didn’t want a cop or the standard firefighter. That’s when a fellow author friend of mine suggested a smoke jumper. They go in and save peeps all the time or at least their belongs in the case of forest fires. The idea was intriguing and I decided to go with it. But I didn’t know much about smoke jumpers. I live in Iowa and we don’t get forest fires here. Field fires, yes, but forest fires…no. So I did some research on them and here are a few tidbits about Nate’s profession that I found interesting.

·         The first smoke jump was in 1940 at the Nez Perce National Forest in the Northern Region of Idaho.

·         The first woman smoke jumper was certified in 1981. (How’s that for woman’s lib? Come join us …we’ll let you jump out of a plane into a forest fire.)

·         Currently there are 270 certified smokejumpers in the U.S.

·         Smokejumpers wear padded jump jacket and pants, made of Kevlar, a wire mesh motorcycle helmet and carry water canteens, fire shelters, hard hats and gloves. They also have a let down rope in their right leg pocket, just in case they get caught in a tree and have to repel down.

These wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned when I thought of a smoke jumper – I had pictured a more traditional fireman but I can’t say I’m disappointed. These men and women do us a great service and I had fun with Nate. His dedication to his job is quite obvious – considering he let Madame Eve set him up on a 1NightStand just to keep his job. J
